The UP Child Development Center is the laboratory school of the FLCD Department. It educates children from 3 months to 5 ½ years old. The Center adheres to a holistic-humanistic view of the child. It specializes in understanding the child through the dynamics of family life and social influences.

It advocates a progressive approach in early childhood education, through the use of the Integrated Core Curriculum. The Center is primarily utilized by FLCD students for observation of pre-school children, practice teaching, training in preschool management and research. A four-year course of study with a heavy concentration on the applied and theoretical arts. The major areas available are Asian music, band conducting, choral conducting, composition, dance, instruments (Strings, Winds & Percussion), music education, piano and voice.

This program is designed for students with outstanding performance ability, but who do not wish to earn a baccalaureate degree. In 1986, the DCPMA replaced the Teacher's Diploma, Artist Diploma, and Certificate of Proficiency.

As was the practice when the College was a Conservatory of Music, this re-baccaulaureate program consists of a heavy concentration on performance and musicianship. Passing the UPCAT is not a requirement. But applicants must pass written music theory, aural, solfegge examinations and a performance audition. It is designed for students with outstanding performance ability. Students choose a wider range of major areas than that in the CM i.e.:, piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brasswinds, percussion, conducting (band or choral), dance, Asian music, composition, and music education.
