This is a five-year degree course in Applied Physics that is aimed at developing Physics as a solid foundation for careers in applied and interdisciplinary sciences. Being an interdisciplinary study, it combines the fundamentals of Physics with other areas of Science and Mathematics in order to produce a practical solution for various real-world problems. Further, this program has two areas of concentration namely; Instrumentation and Materials Science. The Instrumentation Science is particularly offered to students who desire to conceptualize and build his/her instrument, while the Materials Science is offered to students who want to work with novel materials and to modify it depending on his/her desired quality. A. Doctoral students are required to take and pass the Doctoral Admission Test in Education (DATE) before they are admitted provisionally for a period of one-semester course work or it's equivalent, after which said credits are evaluated.
For formal admission to the doctoral program, a student must have:
1. Grade of “2.0″ or better for each subject and
2. A general weighted average of “1.75″ or better.

Course description:
The program leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Physics aims to provide the students with an advanced graduate training in physics that will fully prepare them for scientific careers as top level physicists in academic and/or research institutions. This program is specifically designed to enable students to gain a deep and thorough knowledge of at least one specialized area of physics, to obtain a broad knowledge of several other major areas of contemporary physics, and to acquire the competence to undertake original and independent research in experimental or theoretical physics. Students in the straight Ph.D. Program of the College of Science may earn a Master’s degree in their program provided they have completed the following: (1) completed at least 33 units of graduate courses in their Program of Study; (2) passed the Doctoral Qualifying Examination; (3) passed the Doctoral Candidacy Examination; (4) have a GWA of 1.75; and (5) fulfilled all other College and University requirements for a Master’s degree. Admission Requirements - Freshmen:
Graduates of foreign and Philippine high schools accredited by the Department of Education (DepEd) may be admitted as freshmen into the University based on the following:
1. Performance in the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT); and
2. Weighted average of final grades obtained in high school.
A total combined score of 1,200 for the verbal and mathematics subtests in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) will also qualify an applicant for automatic admission as freshman to the University.

Admission Requirements - Transferees:

Do not apply for an honorable dismissal unless you have been accepted into a program.
2. An accomplished application form (UP Form 3) which may be obtained from the Admission and Registration Section, Office of the University Registrar (OUR) upon presentation of the TCG. You are allowed to apply in not more than three (3) programs.

This school is included under the "Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education" law that passed in 2017.
The law covers students enrolled in State and Local universities/colleges in Bachelors and Certificate programs.
Under the Law students in accredited State and Local universities/colleges will not pay any tuition fees or misc fee.
The Law covers only first time students (students who don't already have a college degree).
However, the full implementation of this law is not clear yet.
