About University of the East:
I graduated from University of the East manila last October 2011, I've been in the university since 2006, I spend extra 1 year because I need to stop from school due to financial problems, and for that 5 meaningful years I can say that a lot of things had changed.
Of course there are good and bad changes occur in the university, the good things were:
1. The facilities are much more advanced, the library, the kiosk, laboratories, classrooms, they even change the black board to white board :)
2. The curriculum adopts to the current need of the society
3. New professors, who are much more younger and approachable.
4. Payment system becomes more organize
and the bad things were:
1. Tuition fee increases every year.
2. The new professors are not that competent compared to older professors.
3. 2006 - 2009 UE red warriors made it to the semis and finals, 2010 - 2011 UE red warriors is at the bottom of the standings.
Well, I must admit that there are a lot of incompetent professors in UE, but I'm not saying that all of them are incompetent, in fact there are a lot of professors in UE who are being offered with a very high salary by other schools if they chooses to leave UE and join them. Especially those old professors, yes they might be strict as hell, they might be your worse nightmare, but they are the ones who are capable of providing you quality education that you will need in the future.
The atmosphere in UE was great, students are very friendly, the employees are very approachable, the faculty are very supportive. The best atmosphere in a university is the first semester, meaning its UAAP season. But dont forget the fact that UE is in Recto, where the traffic is heavy, the pollution is enormous, and political rally happens every now and then.
The facilities became more advance, the computer laboratories are awesome and high-tech, our library is of the most complete and updated library's in the county, our dental facilities are one of a kind that's why UE college of dentistry always tops the board exams, and a lot more. But then again I can see a lot of room for more improvements in terms of facilities.
My current job:
I'm currently working with Factset Research systems as a research analyst, I've been in this company for more than a year and all I can say is that so far so good.
Basically my job is 100% related to my course, as a research analyst our job is analyze research reports from different brokerage companies around the world who provide estimated data of a companies valuation like future sales, net profit, expenses etc.
Our company consolidates those reports to arrive at a very accurate consensus, then these data are being viewed by our clients like fund managers, investment bankers, financial institutions, and the like to help them with their investment decisions.
To work with a multinational research institution is really great, not only we receive high salary and a lot of non monetary benefits like Health benefits, shuttle service, free meal and drinks, medical reimbursements and so much more, we are also given a chance to understand how stock market from different countries really work and thus we are able to learn how to invest in stocks. I'm not mentioning yet how good the environment is :)
What is more enticing is that my shift is 6am to 3pm, so I have a lot of spare time I can use for hanging out with friends, watch movie, have dinner and more, I can also use this spare time to find for another source of income.
How long did it take to find a job:
I started to look for a job right before I finish college, around 2 to 3 weeks before the final exams. The reason for this is that I want to be ahead of everybody since job opportunities are relatively lower that the number of graduates, just like the old saying "The early bird catches the worm".
When going for your first interview, you must come prepared. Research for the company because most of the interviewers will ask what you know about the company and the job, I suggest also that you gather information like awards receive by the company, the community services that they are involve, with these you can show to the interviewer that you are not only after the job but you really want to be a part of a great institution.
Expect the worst in the interview. I experience the weirdest questions like how many baseball balls you can put inside a bus. The key here is to become creative. Interviewers do not look only to your academic skills but they are more after your critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The experience of having a job interview is priceless. It helps you build your confidence and self esteem. After nailing a job interview it is as if you can do everything you want to do.
After 2 weeks of walking around the streets of Ayala ave and Bonifacio Global City, I landed my first job at the prestigious town of Mckinley Hill in Taguig.
Before that Job offer call, I actually applied for a lot of companies like BPI, Metrobank, BDO, Toyota, Maersk, and many more.
I suggest is that when you are looking for your first job, apply for as many companies as you can so you can able to choose the best company that suits your need.
After a month of training, the graduation ceremony finally arrives, I already have a job and most of my batch mates will still find one after the ceremony, and with that I became very proud of myself :)
