BS in Applied Physics

Duration: 5 years
Course description:
This five-year program aims to produce graduates in physics capable of helping and bringing the country to it's full industrialization. It provides the students with extensive and rigid training in physics as a solid background for research, for further studies at the graduate level, and as foundation for careers in applied physics, engineering and interdisciplinary fields. With a balanced exposure to the different areas of theoretical and experimental physics (electromagnetism and optics, classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, statistical and computational physics), graduates of B. S. Applied Physics possess a very wide variety of skills that they can readily apply in their field of work. From the CHED Memorandum Order 20 s2007, the undergraduate degree program in applied physics should be a balance between a holistic general education program and a substantial applied physics curriculum. The program leading to the degree of B.S. Applied Physics shall provide the students with a comprehensive and rigorous training in physics as a foundation for careers in pure and applied physics or interdisciplinary sciences. The program would be sufficient to enable the students to pursue areas such as: 1. Advanced physics research 2. University physics teaching 3. Graduate studies 4. Employment in physics-related jobs in business, industry or the government The applied physics program is specifically designed for those who intend to use the principles and methods of physics to other fields or to the solutions of practical problems of society such as those arising in the industries, health or public service.

Course description:
With four specialized tracks to suit the academic interests, potentials, and aptitude of students, an educational sojourn in the University of San Carlos’ Department of Political Science translates into academic empowerment for the following career paths: 1. The A.B. In PoSc Major in Political Theory and Systems, with it's fortified foundation in critical thinking and discipline can usher the PoSc graduate into the halls of the academe as instructors or university professors, as incisive political opinion-makers or policy consultants and researchers. 2. The A.B. In PoSc Major in Public Management and Development program is designed for students who would like pursue a career as political scientists, public administrators, policy-makers, organizational managers whether public, private or non-government, and as advocates of participatory governance and development. 3. The A.B. In PoSc Major in Law and Policy Studies track is the ideal, if not the best, pre-law course for students who intend to become lawyers. With the program’s incisive and critical treatment of the major branches and perspectives of the law and policy tempered with a blend of legalist and alternative instructional approach, graduates will have an edge in career options in legal or policy advocacy or as court mediators, labor arbitrators, paralegals, legal researchers, court personnel and even as politicians. 4. The A.B. In PoSc Major in International Relations and Foreign Service is designed for students with keen interest and potentials in the conduct of foreign relations as part of the Philippine Foreign Service particularly as foreign service officers who may be diplomatic and/or consular officers, foreign service staff officers, foreign service staff employees or protocol officers, or as international development workers/advocates, researchers or academicians.
