Course description:
Elementary teaching is a challenging profession. Elementary teachers are required to teach numerous subjects every week (including academic subjects like reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, and perhaps subjects like media or computer literacy, visual arts, music, physical education, and others). Elementary teachers must attend to the social, personal, and physical needs of their students, as well as to their academic and intellectual needs. The program is centered on teaching practice, content knowledge for teaching, and a set of ethical obligations. The program aims to support the student-teachers to be well-started beginning elementary teachers able to engage in teaching that meets the needs of all of their students.
Subjects and Curriculum
The BEED curriculum contains both General Education subjects (Basic English and Math, Filipino) and Professional Education subjects.
The General Education subjects can be classified into three major categories:
Theory and Concepts subjects: Facilitating Learning, Child and Adolescent Psychology
Methods and Strategies subjects: Curriculum Development, Developmental Reading
Field Study subjects: – Practice Teaching and Field Study 1-6
Practice Teaching is done during the fourth year of study in both private and public elementary schools, under the supervision of the class adviser who will also conduct periodic evaluation on the assigned student teacher.
