For Doctoral Degree Programs
1. An applicant should possess a master’s degree or it's equivalent from the University or from other recognized institutions of higher learning.
• Ph.D. In Science Education Major in Mathematics - Degree of MS- Mathematics, MAT- Elementary Mathematics, MAT- Secondary Mathematics, and other requirements for admission to the Graduate Programs as provided by the Commission on Higher Education. In addition to the content courses, the following subjects are basic requirements for those who have not taken these courses in the undergraduate level: Linear Algebra; Abstract Algebra; and Geometry.
• Ph.D. In Science Education Major in Biology - Degree of MS- Biology, MAT-Biology, or the equivalent and the other admission requirements to the Graduate Programs as provided by the Commission on Higher Education.
• Ph.D. In Educational Management – must have a master’s degree related to education from the University or from other recognized HEIs, with a weighted average of 90% or it's equivalent. One with a lower weighted average grade may be admitted at the discretion of the Dean based on the other criteria such as interview and written test.
• Ph.D. In Commerce – Degree of MS in Business Administration, Master in Business Administration degree provided that a research in business or business-related areas conducted be submitted.
• Doctor in Public Administration – A Master’s degree holder preferably in Public Administration.
2. The applicant must pass the Graduate Records Examination. However, graduates of SMU in the master’s level may not take the test anymore.
3. The applicant must also pass the interview with the Dean.
4. The applicant should have a general weighted average of not lower than 90% or it's equivalent in the master’s degree. Applicants with general weighted average of lower than 90% may be admitted at the discretion of the Dean, based on the results of the interview. A new student may be admitted on probationary status, which can be converted into a regular status provided that he/she meets the minimum grade average prescribed by the graduate school.
5. Referrals from three former professors, administrators and/or employers must be submitted upon application. In addition to the referrals, three proposed titles for dissertation must be submitted with the application form.
For Master’s Degree Programs
1. An applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree or it's equivalent from the University or from other recognized institutions of higher learning.
• For MAEd Programs
- Guidance & Counseling - A BSE/BSED/BEED degree holder or AB major in Guidance and Counseling or BS major in Psychology or any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in guidance and counseling.
- Religious Education - A BSE/BSED/BEED degree holder or AB major in Religious Formation or any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in religious formation.
- Reading Education – A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education – English major, or AB English.
- Educational Administration – any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in teacher education.
- Pedagogy – any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in teacher education.
- Physical Education – any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in Physical Education.
• For Master of Library and Information Science – A bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or any bachelor’s degree in teacher education with at least 18 units of major subjects in Library and Information Science.
• For MAT /MA Programs
- Biology - A BSE, AB or BS degree holder with at least 18 units professional subjects in Education: Major or Minor in Biology.
- English - An AB, BSE, BSE-IC, BSEEd/BEEd degree holder or any degree holder with at least 18 units professional subjects in education, preferably with a concentration or major/minor in his field.
- Physics - BSE degree holder, major in Physics; AB, BS major in Physics, with at least 18 units of professional subjects in Education.
- Chemistry - BSE degree holder, major in Chemistry; AB, BS major in Chemistry, with at least 18 units of professional subjects in Education.
- Social Studies - BSEEd/BEEd degree holder major in Social Science; AB, BS major in History.
• For MST Program
- Mathematics - BSE degree holder, major in Mathematics; AB, BS major in Mathematics, with at least 18 units of professional subjects in Education; BSCE, BS Chemistry degree holder with at least 18 units of professional subjects in education; BSE/BSEd major in mathematics.
• For MBA - A bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Business Administration or any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in commerce for non-business graduates.
• For MPA - A BPA degree holder or any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in public administration.
• For ME/MSME - A bachelor’s degree in any engineering-related courses.
• For MSN - A BS Nursing degree holder who graduated from a CHED recognized school of Nursing and a Registered Nurse.
• For MSA - A bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or a bachelor’s degree in Commerce/ Business Administration with at least 18 units of major subjects in accountancy.
• For MIT – A BSIT or BSCS degree holder or any bachelor’s degree with at least 18 units of major subjects in Information Technology or Computer Science.
2. The applicant should also pass the Graduate Records Examination.
3. The applicant should have a general weighted average of not lower than 85% or it's equivalent in the bachelor’s degree. Applicants with general weighted average of lower than 85% may be admitted at the discretion of the Dean, based on the results of the interview.
