Why did I choose this school:
This is not my first choice to transfer, I've checked PLM & PUP unfortunately they are already closed, a good friend advised me to try RTU because they are offering Biology which is the closest course of MedTech. RTU is a state-owned university, they offer much of engineering courses (as stated in their name "Rizal Technological U"). Then I finally got accepted after several inquiries to other universities.
About Rizal Technological University:
RTU lies at the heart of many condominiums and along Boni Highway (traffic often times), a highly urbanized school. It has friendly atmosphere however it is too crowded, during my time we were 24,000+ (now more than 30k) students from basic ed to graduate school situating in a less than 4 hectare area. I think it is safe there, well, I haven't encountered any untoward incident relating to safety and security.
It is fortunate that all faculty members of Biology Department were UPD & UPLB products, so it is expected that you will experience (some sort) a UP-like mode of learning, they were all competent, congenial, and smart. But there are times that they are giving examinations that weren't even discussed or opened in class, so definitely you have no idea what are you going to do; unless you are a very wide reader and bookish person.
Facilities (sigh), big obstacle to Bio Department though we have advanced (or should I say a well maintained) mushroom laboratory, most of the students will be focusing on what is/are available. During my time, we only have 2 working laboratories available for research writing; Mushroom Biotechnology Laboratory & Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, excluding the basic laboratory such as microlab, chemlab, biolab, fermentation lab (not maintained). Our curriculum does not offer any electives because of lack of facilities.I must say that most of our classrooms are air-conditioned (I think we are lucky compare to other courses). If you're (KABIO) our colloquial term for bio students, you will be easily recognized, we have a small community in RTU. To generalize, I will be biased, compared to other courses Bio is likely to be a good choice in terms of environment, community, "masaya lang, mag-eenjoy ka kapag gusto mo ginagawa mo at kasma mo".
My current job:
An ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR from De La Salle University. Basically, all environment-related activities that the students or administrators want to push through will be handled and accommodated by our office. I'm also engaged in research and community engagement activities.
I've worked also at the Environmental Management Bureau-DENR as Project Development Officer wherein I've handled the air quality and transportation-related activities.
How long did it take to find a job:
Prior to my graduation, I was recommended by my ecology professor to EMB, it took awhile for me to start because of my credentials and other requirements, but not too long. 28 days right after graduation to be exact
