Course description:
The Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy is a four-year college degree program intended for people who seeks a diverse range of career options in pharmacy practice such as the industry, hospitals, community, research and regulatory oversight within government agencies. It is a health profession that focuses not only on the identification, developing, manufacturing and dispensing of drugs, but also it has the responsibility for drug therapy management in patients, the generation and transmission of knowledge about proper selection and use of drugs and their effect on people. A patient-oriented service is now the focus of this program and providing such education redounds to an improvement in the esteem in which our profession is held.

The BS Pharmacy curriculum comprises 72-units of CHED-mandated general education courses, 30-units essential core subjects, and 90-units professional pharmacy courses presented thru lectures and laboratory classes. The program requires Thesis and Research Project in addition to the Practicum in the three major pharmaceutical areas of internship, namely the community, hospital and manufacturing.

Since a Clinical pharmacist is now accepted as an important part of the healthcare team. She/he works in coordination with doctors for an improved patient healthcare. They have some very specific roles which aim at assuring patient safety. Through the clinical pharmacists, treatment goals for many people are achieved more efficiently. This is because the program can help them develop their analytical skills and they can be consultants on rational drug therapy in the future.

This specialization provides students with a broad range of knowledge, skills and resources to practice effectively as a clinical pharmacy practitioner involved in the quality use of medicines and pharmaceutical care. These skills include the capacity to individualize, review and monitor a patient’s medication regimen; demonstrate effective communication skills in clinical and non-clinical scenarios; critically appraise medical and pharmaceutical literature, as well as to recognize and describe social issues relating to medicine use.

In addition, pharmacists will gain insight into contemporary management strategies for pharmacy and health care as well as explore research and evaluation of pharmacy services and practice. Regular updates of the course will integrate emerging clinical evidence and current controversies. A major strength of the program is the emphasis on developing clinical practice and the integration of evidence based medicine.

This program prepares individuals to apply managerial, social, and economic sciences to the study and management of the distribution and use of pharmaceutical products and the provision of other pharmaceutical services.

This specialization involves not only the wealth of knowledge obtained through the study of pharmacy, but also that of business, marketing and public policy. This is a challenging and rewarding field that could combine two passions: business and science. This field of specialization contains coursework in pharmaceutical regulations, marketing and distribution. It includes instruction in research design and methods, statistics, social and organizational behavior, pharmacoeconomics, management of pharmacy services, research, product development and marketing, health laws and regulations which centers on pharmacy and pharmaceutics, risk assessment and organization of the health care system.

Those who have this specialization can choose to work in the pharmaceutical industry, medical setting or other related occupations in the government or even pharmacy education. This specialization provides an understanding of the role of the pharmacy and pharmacy managers as they relate to healthcare systems. Pharmaceutical administrators manage, promote and study the impact of pharmaceutical products and services.
