About Mindanao State University:
Studying in Mindanao State University under the the Social Work Department of College of Public Affairs spells survival of the fittest, passion, hope, and preparation. It is well-known fact from both the students and the alumni that everyone in the campus should live as if he/she is combating for every challenges of student life. Most, if not totally all, would choose to be practical, that is, detaching himself/herself from the "luxuries" of life while putting into priority the responsibilities of being a student of the university. Choosy students will definitely outcast from the true blooded MSUAN (calling for both MSU Student and an alumnus).
Education is indeed great in quality. Though the university itself is not that advanced for the needed facilities, one can clearly sense the initiatives coming from both the faculty members and the students on how they should respond amidst the situation.
Becoming a student in MSU would give you a true privilege to act with people whose ethnic denomination is different from yours. You will indeed become a student of other culture/s thus becoming sensitive to their ethnicity. Respect would become your "food" for everyday and by this you will come to know that other people whose perspective, values and culture different from you are also important and have an equal share from the benefits of human rights.
For the most part of our being students in the department and the university, it is the experience that would teach us more about best practices in life.
Most from us who were given one of a kind experience as we were engaged in widening perspectives on human development work during college days could tell how fruitful it was to be the students in the university in general and the department in particular. Modesty aside, our mentors are honed with specific skills, knowledge and experiences affirmed on the way they share these attributes to their students. Their sharing of knowledge to the students are reflective of values which are essential not because we would become "professional" change agents soon but because we are human beings who need to behave as none other than the human beings.
Faculty members in the department always emphasize the importance of learning through experience activities in the school. In fact, when one becomes a student in the department, he/she will surely be engaged in various activities which are distinct to the transactions of every faculty member in the department. The students are also taught to strengthen the commitment and engagement of potential partners/stakeholders in the conduct of department's social work related activities such as lecture-forum, seminars, etc. And during community outreach activity. With these experiences, one would be exposed on various learnings could only be brought about by actual engagement on those activities.
My current job:
I am currently working as a City Link Officer in Malaybalay City, under the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) poverty-alleviation program on Conditional Cash Transfer commonly known as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program
How long did it take to find a job:
After knowing the result of the Board Exam for Social Workers given last June 2012 (from which I fortunately passed) I started applying for job last July 2012 and hired sometime in August 2012. So it took me four months before I got my first job as a City Link Officer in DSWD Field Office 10.
