Course description:
This program is designed to guide students in progressively assimilating the creative and technical aspects of the interior design profession while developing in them cultural sensitivity. It aims to develop well-rounded individuals prepared to meet the challenges and dynamics of interior design practice. Its training combines theoretical and practical aspects of the practice with emphasis on the optimum development of the students’ conceptualization and creative skills. It is designed to cover a wide range of professional practice such as: interior design, furniture and accessories design, visual merchandising, production design, exhibition design, interior landscaping design, and lighting design. Graduates of this program are primarily trained for professional practice or may specialize in any of the broad range of interior design services mentioned above.

Additional requirements for applicants coming from schools abroad (except for Filipino schools under DepEd):
Scholastic Records, duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post located in the student applicant’s country of origin or legal residence; if the country or territory of origin is already a member of the Apostille Convention, authentication of the Philippine Foreign Service is no longer necessary. Five (5) copies of the Student’s Personal History (PHS) duly signed by the applicant, both in English, and in his/her national alphabet accompanied by his/her personal seal, if any, and containing, among others, his left and right thumbprints and a 2x2 inch photograph on plain white back-ground taken not more than six months prior to submission of his/her documents.
A notarized affidavit of support including bank statements or notarized notice of grant for institution-al scholars to cover expenses for the student’s accommodation and subsistence, as well as school dues and other incidental expenses.
Admission Requirements - Transferees:
Initial Requirements:

• Weighted average of at least 2.00 or it's equivalent, excluding Religion, Physical Education (PE) and National Service Training Program (NSTP)
2. Original certificate of good moral character issued by the college Student Affairs Office (with school seal)
3. Letter of Intent addressed to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (EVPAA). Please state the program applied for.
Note:
Applicants applying for Engineering and Science programs are subject to take the Mapúa Scholastic Aptitude Examination for Math.
Applicants applying for Architecture, Interior Design and Multimedia Arts and Sciences are required to take the Skills Test as an additional examination.
Additional Requirements once approved by the EVPAA
1. Honorable dismissal/Certificate of Transfer Credential
2. Original or certified true copy of detailed course (subject) descriptions
3. Original birth certificate printed on National Statistics Office paper
4. Two (2) identical pictures (plain background), size 1½” x 1½”
5. Photocopy of ACR for foreign nationals

Note:
Social Sciences, Filipino, PE, and NSTP are the only subjects that shall be credited without a validation examination. For other courses (i.e. English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Drawing, Physics, and Computer), the applicants must take the validation examinations to be given one (1) month before the enrollment period, for a fee. Otherwise, he should repeat the courses. Only courses in the basic program may be credited. However, no validation examination should be given to applicants who come from higher educational institution with status of full autonomy (granted by the Commission on Higher Education) provided the course description for the courses to be credited are equivalent to Mapúa’s course description.
The following rules shall govern the admission of transfer students:
1. Transfer students may be admitted to a degree program provided that –
• they would complete in Mapúa at least sixty percent (60%) of the units required for the degree program
• the maximum number of students quota set by the School and the Registrar for the degree program to which admission is sought has not yet been filled up
• they have accomplished and submitted the Fraternity Contract (form issued by the Registrar’s Office during enrollment)
2. The admission of transfer students shall be on probationary basis until all courses taken outside Mapúa, which are required for the degree program, shall have been validated or repeated.
Note:
Transferees must submit their Official Results of Basic Medical Laboratory Work-up (CBC, Urinalysis, Chest X-Ray: PA View) from any major hospitals, upon enrollment.
BACHELOR DEGREE HOLDERS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS
Initial Requirements

Note:

Admission Requirements - Foreign Students:
A. Applicants must be non-immigrants and have completed secondary education (high school or it's equivalent). They must pass the Mapúa Scholastic Aptitude Examination (MSAE) or submit their Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) results with a score of at least 1600 before they become eligible for admission as first year students.
Note: Crediting of advanced college units is on a case-by-case basis.
B. For non-native English speakers, applicants are required to take and pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Please refer to item No. 1e under Documentary Requirements
C. Admission guidelines for applicants coming from the USA:
1. All international students who wish to study at Mapúa are required to submit the requirements below to the Office of the Registrar for evaluation:
• Original copy with school seal, and signature of authorized signatory of the following:
- Scholastic records or Transcript of Records
- Certification of Graduation or Certificate of Completion (Grade 11 or 12)
• Clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for foreign applicant who resided in the Philippines for more than 59 days at the time he applies for the change/conversion of his admission status to that of a student
• Photocopy of applicant's passport bio-page, latest admission and authorized stay
Note: Please present original passport for verification.
2. The Office of the Registrar, upon evaluation, recommends the applicant to take the Mapúa Scholastic Aptitude Examination (MSAE).
3. The applicant takes and passes the Mapúa Scholastic Aptitude Examination (MSAE).
• Note: In lieu of the MSAE, the applicant may instead submit his/her SAT results with a score of at least 1600.
4. Upon satisfying the abovementioned requirements, an applicant must then submit to the Office of the Registrar the following documents for enrolment:
Bureau of Immigration Checklist of Documentary Requirements for Application for Conversion of Student Visa
• Duly notarized letter of request from the applicant, with a statement that all the documents submitted were legally obtained from the corresponding government agencies
• Duly notarized General Application Form accomplished by the applicant (BI Form No. MCL-07-01)
• Original copy of the Notice of Acceptance (NOA) containing a clear impression of the school's official dry seal or a duly notarized written endorsement from the school for the conversion of the applicant's status signed by the school's Registrar
• Original copy of Medical Certificate issued by the Bureau of Quarantine and International Health Surveillance or a government medical institution with competence to certify that the applicant is not afflicted with any dangerous, contagious or loathsome disease and is mentally fit
• Photocopy of applicant's passport showing it's bio-page, latest admission and authorized stay of at least 20 days from the date of filing
• National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Clearance
• Bureau of Immigration (BI) Clearance Certificate
5. Upon submission of the requirements listed above, the Office of the Registrar prepares the documents and bills the student of the required fees.
6. The school Liaison Officer submits the documents to the BI and pays the required fees.
7. BI processes the conversion of visa.
8. The school Liaison Officer claims the visa after two weeks.
9. The Office of the Registrar informs the student when the Student Visa is already available and assists the student for enrolment.
An official transcript of records showing the award of the baccalaureate degree in engineering or any related program by a recognized institution of higher learning, and one photocopy of the transcript.
A request for “transfer of credentials” from the Registrar’s Office of the school where the baccalaureate degree was obtained. Mapúa graduates are exempted.
At least two letters of recommendation from previous professors and/or current employers.
Two copies of accomplished application forms with 2” x 2” (identical) pictures.
Additional requirements for international students:
For non-native English speakers
A score of at least 500 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam is required.
The application form and all supporting documents shall be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies. An application will not be processed until all required credentials have been received. Applicants are advised to arrange for the transmittal of all documents well ahead of the application deadline.
All first-time applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of P400. For non-resident foreign applicants, the application fee is US$50 payable to Mapúa University in cashier’s check or postal money order.
Note: For BS-MS, Post-Graduate Diploma, and Master’s programs - All candidates for admission shall be subject to approval for acceptance by the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Head of the respective graduate program with a GWA of 2.50 or better, or it's equivalent. For Doctoral programs - All candidates for admission shall be subject to approval for acceptance by the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Head of the respective graduate program with a GWA of 2.00 or better, or it's equivalent.
Diagnostic Test: Applicants for the Master of Engineering Programs are given diagnostic tests in Engineering Mathematics, Computer Fundamentals, and Technical Communications. Those who obtain scores of 70% or better in each test shall be exempted from registering for the equivalent course.
Interview: The Dean of the School of Graduate Studies or the Program Coordinator will conduct an interview with the applicant prior to admission.
Notice of Admission: If qualified, an applicant will receive a letter informing him of his admission to the program. The admission is valid for one year. If the applicant fails to complete any graduate course or a portion of the prescribed program within this period, the acceptance lapses and the student will be subjected to any newly adopted requirement upon application for readmission.
Conditional Admission and Retention for Post-Graduate Diploma and Master’s programs: A graduate student is conditionally admitted if his average in professional courses is below 2.50. He will be dismissed from the program if he fails to get a GWA of 2.00 or higher after completing 12 units of the program. Under this term, the student is not allowed to withdraw any course. The grade of “I” (INCOMPLETE) is equivalent to “4” in the computation of the GWA.
