Why did I choose this school:
Becoming a part of the right university was one of my goals. I planned to take my college studies seriously and right after choosing what degree to take up, I immediately decided upon where I would study it. Far Eastern University has always been in my priority list at that time. When one of our relatives told me that my aunt graduated there, I suddenly had a feeling of belongingness. A few months before our high school graduation, representatives from Far Eastern University visited our school. They convinced us to enroll there because they are listed in the top 10 universities in the Philippines and that they offer courses that can help prepare students in the real world. I was really interested so I asked for their admission examination form. On the examination day, I was the only one in our class who took the examination.
About FEU:
Far Eastern University is an ideal university where you can truly feel at home. The overall ambiance was inviting. When I first stepped into the university grounds, I felt comfortable right away because the atmosphere entices. Hallways were uncluttered, buildings were artistically designed and the campus ground was filled with tall tress which gave me the impression that it's a 'nature advocate' university. These trees gave a feeling of closeness, that we are one with the university. Every time we need to have a place where we can meet up with friends or simply stay while we wait for our classes, we can just drop by our 'Freedom Park', adjacent to the university memorial square. Freedom Park has these tall trees with cemented boxes where students can sit and stay while they're waiting for their peers or classes. This is one of my favorite places inside our campus since it does not only provide shade; it also gives equal feeling of freedom for each student, as to what it's name implies.
Facilities around the university are very up to date, with computers and air-conditioned rooms that'll suit every student's needs. In our institute, we have several rooms that are based in our industry’s preferences such as a photography room, film viewing room, theater room and TV studio. Equipment per room follows the standard up to date requirements from the communication field. These help us students have our training similar to what we can expect when we face the real world. Overall, the university provides not only academic learning but hands on training that can help shape students into professionals they want to be.
Professors in Far Eastern University are shaped by our core values of Fortitude, Excellence and Uprightness. They make sure that they have mastered their fields so as to provide the correct learning that we need in the future. Some professors were strict about requirements and performance but that drives students to become better every single day. They want us to fully realize our potential by making sure we learn something before leaving the university premises. I look up to my mentors in the Department of Communication of the Institute of Arts and Sciences because they prepared us before graduating, that the main strength we have when we finally face the real world is our tenacity.
My current job:
I’m currently working as a part time Marketing Manager for a travel business. My responsibilities include handling all marketing needs of the business, from closing deals with different travel agencies, hotels and resorts to creating marketing strategies to help boost our business’ sales. Also, as the head of Marketing, I am tasked to build a brand for the business and instill to people what we can offer to them. I am also tasked to create collateral such as brochures, flyers and website. Overall, being a Marketing Manager requires a lot of skills in order to persuade and build a targeted market.
How long did it take to find a job:
Right after graduation, I decided to take a break for 3 months since I’ve been studying for quite a long time. I tried freelance tutoring and it lasted for 2 months. Then by October of 2013, I was invited by my dad’s colleague to become a Marketing Manager for their business. I grabbed the opportunity since I saw it as a chance for me to put my skills to the test. As of today, I’m still working for them and hopefully, I’ll be able to grow professionally in the years to come.
