Why did I choose this school: My father did not want me to study outside of Tacloban City. EVSU offers the best teachers and training for this course in this region. Even those from Samar and other parts of Leyte come to study Architecture in this school. The passing rate is higher compared to other schools in the region.

About EVSU Tacloban: The school is a state university with funding from the Philippine government. The tuition is cheap but the teaching method is good and the teachers strictly demand from the students the completion of projects. The competitive method of teaching forces the students to do their homework and assignment and make them learn faster.

The facilities are not the good compared to those in Metro Manila or Cebu City but they are good enough in this region.

My current job: My present work is to be one of the Architects in a firm in Manila with SM and other rich people as clients. I make the designs and submit the completed design to my direct superior for approval. Once approved I have to make sure that it is implemented according to the approved plan.

How long did it take to find a job: After graduation, I still have to comply with the 2-year actual work with Architects. Then I have to take the Board. After passing the Board and becoming a full – fledged Architect my father demanded for me to stay in Tacloban to help him in his business. Only in 2013 was I allowed to work full-time in Manila.

Why did I choose this school: Proximity and reputability (on a regional scale)

About EVSU Tacloban: The school was student-friendly. Lots of organizations (course, service, values-oriented orgs) you can choose and be connected with.

Some instructors/profs came from various private industries before they joined the academe so they have ample of technical knowledge and experiences to share with their students. Few so-so and a few select both technically and theoretically well-versed. The latter group really motivates you to do better. On a softer note, almost all are approachable, friendly and are always willing to help their students.

A number of facilities were, unfortunately, old and outdated. Some wereeven totally beat-up.

My current job: Operation and Maintenance Engineer in a power plant.

How long did it take to find a job: Almost a year since I had to review and pass the board exams first.

Why did I choose this school: Being a resident of this place, this school offers the way to realize my dream to be an engineer at an affordable cost. My parents were not rich. I cannot study in Cebu or Manila. This was my best choice.

About EVSU Tacloban: This state university has a big campus. Its facilities are sufficient to make a student finish a course. The teacher were licensed engineers, architects, surveyors, and one was a holder of a masters degree in environmental engineering. They guided us on what to read and remember. Their teaching method was more practical, it was based on experience.


My current job: I am now in the construction business with a contractor. I deal with the local government for the construction of small projects like schools, roads, and small houses. I implement the building plan made by the architects and I supervise the people in the actual construction.

How long did it take to find a job: I was hired by a contractor only one year after my graduation. I did the supervision of the labor personnel and I made sure that the work was properly made.
