BS in Interdisciplinary Business Studies

Duration: 3 years
Course description:
The Interdisciplinary Business Studies (IBS) program was developed for students of the College of Business who desire a more generalist orientation to business. In other words, it is intended for students who are interested in business and economics, but not necessarily in a specific discipline, such as accounting, economics, finance, management, or marketing. For these students, the IBS program gives them the flexibility to design their own program of business studies. However, the flexibility of the IBS curriculum also affords students the opportunity to easily pursue another major, such as Accountancy, Business Management, Economics, Legal Management, Management of Financial Institutions, and Marketing Management. Given the variety of programs and the adaptability of the IBS curriculum to meet a wide range of study interests, graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Business Studies Program have a diverse set of career opportunities, which may involve entrepreneurship, corporate management, financial management (including banking, insurance, real estate, and stock brokerage and analysis), human resource management and industrial relations, sales and marketing, economic and marketing research, and government service.

Duration: 2 years
Course description:
The Master of Science in Economics is a full-time program redesigned primarily for students who need adequate preparation for a doctoral degree in Economics in a local or foreign university. The program is also appropriate for those who are teaching or plan to teach Economics at the graduate or advance undergraduate level or who are professionals in government and private research institutions. The training is more rigorous and there is a greater focus on the underlying theory rather than on applications. Students are armed at the outset with the mathematical and statistical tools used by economists in theoretical and applied research. The student can then proceed to specialize in any of four (4) available tracks.

Course description:
The Ph.D. In Economics Program is primarily designed in order to further upgrade, advance and ensure the continued development of the teaching skills and research capabilities of faculty who are currently handling economics courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs of the university. Modern economics courses are increasingly becoming more quantitative, with intensive analysis requiring advanced mathematical skills. Highly ranked universities abroad (particularly in the United States, Western Europe and Japan) who are known for maintaining excellent undergraduate as well as graduate programs in economics have put more emphasis on the use of mathematical reasoning and the formulation of mathematical models which were intended to complement efforts towards producing both theoretical and applied research to be useful for both academe and industry. Faculty members who are determined to complete the doctoral program are expected to expand their knowledge and perspective of the recent developments in the field of economics. In addition, they are also expected to be better equipped in handling more complex research problems using more sophisticated tools in statistics and econometrics. In the long term, this would allow the university to raise the level of economics education (both for undergraduate and graduate students) and economic research closer to international standards. The provision of a solid, and analytically intensive training in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, complemented by it's applications in trade, finance and money and banking should produce faculty with Ph.D's having improved capabilities to teach both advanced economics, as well as the sophisticated statistical tools for both theoretical and applied economic research.
