The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) degree is a specialized course offered for three semesters to individuals who are envisioned to be working directly with the grassroots. The focus of instruction is in strengthening the philosophical base and in developing among the students the commitment as well as the skills to work with the marginalized groups on a partnership level.

This is intended for social development practitioners, community extension managers, trainors, project administrators, project supervisors, and those who intend to engage in community development work.

The course emphasizes holistic, integrative and participatory approaches to community development work toward sustainability in the context of the growing global concern about climate change. Part of the course is a seven-day community immersion program that will expose participants to rural-urban settings to complement the concepts and principles acquired during the course.

Course Objectives:

The course generally aims to provide participants with necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills in community development as a strategy for social transformation.

By the end of the course, the participants are expected to analyze the various theoretical frameworks and approaches in working with various stakeholders, within their own socio-political and economic contexts and in relation to their present and intended future involvements. They should also be able to appropriately and meaningfully translate development concepts and principles into strategic plans of action.

Course description:
The Master in Social Services and Development Program is one of ASI’s graduate programs that amplify the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the Institute. This graduate program is designed for persons who are presently or expect to be engaged in the social services, human and social development processes. Such engagements can be in the context of developing countries or other kinds of poverty being experienced in diverse social realities.

The program will weave together Catholic and other Christian social teachings; indigenous and inter-faith spirituality; Filipino and other Asian values. This will be a program of co-learners as faculty, students, cooperating agencies and organizations, as well as partner communities implement it.

It is a program that seeks student participants who would be maturing adults and who would find challenge in significant opportunities for self-learning and other self-initiatives for growth.
