Why did I choose this school:
I was enticed by their PR campaign. It was a standard PR stint that showcased testimonies by their Top Notchers. It occurred to me, that if their program could produce a topnotcher, I could benefit the most if I get my act together. The fees are relatively cheap too for studying nursing costs an arm and a leg those days. Also, I was pursuing a romantic interest that went to that University. Being single since birth made me a bit desperate to have a girlfriend in Uni. So landing there was pre destined, planned, and logical.
About Arellano University in Pasay:
The campus itself is surprisingly cool. The front gate sucks and if you were to view the school from the LRT tram, you'll see it's sandwiched between two bus liners. Normally, you woul hear bustling horns and shouting people when near bus terminals, but there's a silence within those walls that encouraged you to learn. There's a pathway leading to the main building, an open space to park your vehicle, and an open basketball court. There are benches and stone tables that you could all chill out when it's after school hours.
There are two kinds of professors that I knew of in that school. The old ones and the new. The old ones, which we lovingly call as Thundercats, are the veterans of the nursing profession. With some backgrounds from large hospitals, they gave you great insight on how nursing is done. They're pretty rigid when it comes to procedures, but they're pretty great bodies of knowledge if you get to listen to them. The next one are the new ones, these are smart people but have a few years experience in the field. They bring innovation and technology into teaching albeit the limitations of the facilities. They're pretty much like ate's and kuya's of the school. Cool, hip, and kind people that will fail you if you didn't study well.
The rooms are all airconditioned, with ample lighting for each room. The laboratories are basic, the ones that you see in a high school. For skills laboratories, the equipments are poorly maintained yet functional. Enough to fulfill it's remaining years' purpose of shaping the nurse in you.
My current job:
I'm an ICU nurse in a hospital in Region 2.
We deal with patients that require intensive care.
How long did it take to find a job:
9 months. I looked for a job as a nurse in Manila for 9 months, which went nowhere, than it took me only 2 weeks to land a job in region 2 as a nurse.
