Why did I choose Banking and Finance:
If there is one industry applicable even in the simplest lives of each person in the world, that is Banking and Finance.
I chose this particular course because I wanted to learn more about the industry that partly runs the world. At the same time, being able to impart what I have learned in the field of Banking and Finance to the Filipino people, teaching them how to be financially independent, and introducing the importance of the bank to them, hoping that someday, this would help ease poverty among our nation.
About my college education:
Studying Banking and Finance is interesting yet difficult. It is interesting how the banking industry evolves as the new generation comes in. Yet on the other hand, it is difficult as it is an integral part of the society. If the banking industry fails, many industries will follow and fail as well.
For succeeding in this course, one should possess high ethical standards and prudence because the Banking industry is a business of trust.
My current job:
I am currently a management trainee under the Officers Development Program of RCBC Savings Bank. But the program will end soon and by June 2, 2014, I will be an official Accounts Officer, Junior Assistant Manager level, under the SME loans Department, Wholesale Lending Division of the Consumer Lending Group.
Am I using what I learned in college:
All the things that were taught in college are applicable. The principles, theories and formulas are important to survive in the workplace. However, the most important lesson I have learned from school that I applied in my current job is more on the values and maturity that comes with education.
The principles, theories and formulas would never be enough if one does not possess the values and maturity needed in the workplace. It is not all about what is written in the book. Most of the time, it is about one's attitude.
How long did it take to find a job:
1 month after graduation.
Do I recommend studying Banking and Finance:
The employment opportunities are wide for Banking and Finance degree holders. The salary range for bank positions is dependent on the size of the bank and varies widely. Also, salaries within each individual bank may vary for the same job title depending on the amount of lending authority or scope of responsibility of the bank employee.
Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:
Have the passion to excel, and be disciplined enough to be able to grasp the lessons the course would offer. Always keep in mind that this will be your first step on the ladder to success.
