Why did I choose Hospitality Management: I chose this particular course because 1st, The math subject isn't as difficult than in other courses, and 2nd, I love travelling and accommodating travelers that are willing to have adventure and knows the history of it's place they visit.

About my college education: I actually learn to be strong and being a well - competent in our own field.
The most difficult parts were Asian cuisine, bank manager interview for entrepreneurial subjects assignment, and last was the catering subjects, it took a month to finish and revise everything. The most enjoyable part of my college life is when we are having our shipboard training in Superferry 21.
It is difficult to pass the exam especially if the passing grade is 75%. And I also had to repeat subjects.

The traits and attitude to succeed is being a hard-working, confident, patience and obedient in every way.

My current job: I am an associate in Lucianos Hotel And Restaurant.
I take orders to the customer and every week we do have reshuffle, so I can be a housekeeper, front desk and even bartenders. This establishment is new that is why we are able to experience everything in this establishment.

Am I using what I learned in college: As a associate, we usually follow the teaching that we learned in school like, inventory, cash balance and etc.

How long did it take to find a job: I found a job in just a few months after graduation.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Yes, I do recommend BS in Hospitality Management because wherever you go you will take training, exam, and etc in this field. Like applying abroad or seaman.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: My advice to my younger people who are considering studying BS in Hospitality Management is to take it seriously. Though, many people tried to stuppe this course down because mostly student of this course are transferees and student that are advise to take another course. But, if you have the eagerness and determination you can succeed in this course because this course is the best course of all courses.

About my college education: It was a different experience for me. I'm not used to doing all the work, I usually have the work done for me. My course taught me to become efficient and hardworking. We do so many hands on activities especially cooking and housekeeping.
As a student of this course, you have to be skilled in the field of communication and service. You should know how to deal with different types of people and you should also learn to accept harsh criticism.

My current job: I am currently a manager in training at a local restaurant.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, of course. I am using the skills that I've learned in business management. I am also able to put in my culinary and food & beverage skills.

How long did it take to find a job: I found a job pretty quickly because I have connections and they were generous enough to offer me a job.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Employment opportunities - yes, hospitality management graduates are currently in demand abroad. There are so many job opportunities, in hotels, cruises, and restaurants.

It is a very fulfilling career because you get to be happy by serving others.

The salary level is average locally, but when you're abroad, it is pretty high.

About my college education: BS in Hospitality Management is a bit challenging and as well as enjoyable. The course is close to BS in HRM but the difference is we do need to study everything about hospitality. From the hotels down to restaurants and airports and other hospitality establishments, that makes the BSHM challenging. The enjoyable parts are the situations that are normally part of our everyday and yet being able to understand, manage and achieve the expected result brings out the satisfaction from within.
For me there is no specific skill that is required to succeed on this course. The natural skills that a normal person has can be a good stepping stone to achieve the objective of entering this kind of course. But there will be some instances that you need to analyze, study then execute some skills for you to pass but guaranteed that every skills you need to pass this course is achievable.

My current job: I am currently unemployed but the family runs a business which I am active at this point.
There were numerous amount of offers after graduation but none of them offers a job that I know I will be enjoying at.

Am I using what I learned in college: Practicality is the basis of the course I've chosen and yes everything about management is greatly applicable and currently using to our family business.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Basically yes, because the course is greatly in demand to fulfill the balance of the hospitality establishments and the growing tourism of our country. The workforce and as well the known hospitality of the Filipinos is a plus factor. The salary level for me is on the second priority if the person is definitely into serving and providing beyond satisfaction.

Why did I choose Hospitality Management: I chose to study Hospitality Management because I love to cook and travel. Hospitality Management can give graduates an opportunity to work in service industry abroad or putting up business restaurants.

About my college education: I've learned tourism industry, business, marketing, front office and restaurants.

The most difficult assignment that I have gone through was accomplishing feasibility study because it requires efficiency, effectiveness, time and etc.

The most useful things I have learned were cooking foods, table set-up, table skirting, and communicating with people (front office).

Some exams were difficult, we were 50 who have failed in one subject, yet none of us have shifted to another course, we have pursued until we have graduated.


My current job: I am a missionary volunteer in Gawad Kalinga, it is volunteerism on helping poor people to have a greater future. Building Community to end Poverty.

I just resigned last February 2014, I worked as Secretary in City Engineering Government.

Am I using what I learned in college: I have used my hospitality attitude in responding with angry co-employees or managers.

How long did it take to find a job: It took me 1 year to find a job, because I was afraid to find a job due to my health condition.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Hospitality Management is an easy access to working overseas, it can give you a salary of P 20,000-P 50.000 without tax and plus you are paid with tips (this is only based on what I have known on our orientation during college).
Working as a servant is a noble job. It can also help you grew as businessman or hotelier.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Hospitality Management is really fun to study because you can learn to cook, explore the world through tourism, you can be business hotelier or restaurateur.

Why did I choose Hospitality Management: This course is a combination of the majors of Tourism, and Hotel and Restaurant Management. I like this course and this is not expensive to my parents.

About my college education: I learned how to cook many kinds of recipes during our cooking sessions and how to be a receptionist in a hotel. I definitely learned essential knowledge about hotel management, especially on prioritizing the needs of customers or guests. I enjoyed every subject related to the course because I charged it all to my experience.

In my opinion I think an open-mind, sense of responsibility and enthusiasm are useful in succeeding through the course.

My current job: As of now I am working as a Sales Person of a food retail business in a mall in Davao City. I promote and sell the products. I make the cash report everyday.

Am I using what I learned in college: The practical things I learned were cooking, entertaining tourists in our school, and preparing hotel rooms for the guests. The skills I gained in those areas can be used in any service-related job where the focus is on the customer.

How long did it take to find a job: It took me a few months to be hired and after 6 months I was hired as a regular employee.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: This course is good because the cost of this until graduation is very affordable. This short-term course is appropriate for children of the residents in this poor region. It also gives the student a good chance for employment. The parents in this region would be very glad to have their children finish college and work because there is much poverty and high unemployment in this region.

About my college education: It was really good. Made me where I am now. Learned a lot, like personality development, critical thinking, problem solving, budgeting, decision making, computer literate, good communication skills.

My current job: Tourism Marketing and Sales Officer

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes! Definitely. Basically hotels have this system which we call Fidelio, same system we had studied and since technologied grow rapidly, now I am using OPERA system, way above the system taught but still without this old system, opera wouldn't exist.

How long did it take to find a job: Not long. Didn't had hard time getting in a good job.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Yes definitely!
But on the other hand, people would succeed in any field not just by the university where they have been, but also with their own hardwork and perseverance.

Why did I choose Hospitality Management: I chose this course because I love to travel, interacting and socializing with other people. I wanted also to learn the culture of other nations.

About my college education: I learned how to have a good customer relation, making a tour package, some foreign language, how to be a tour guide, personality development and good communication skills.
For me math subjects was the most difficult but thanks to God I'd passed it.
The most useful things that I've learned was when we are in the field of hospitality management we must be aware of the trends in our tourism industry and we should have a long patience.
I passed all of my exams even though it was very difficult. Be professional and have a good communication with others.

My current job: I'm currently working in a Travel Agency as a Customer Service.

How long did it take to find a job: It's been only 1 month before I got a job.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: For those who are thinking to take this course I recommend that you should choose BSHM-Tourism because it is really fun in our field, but you should focus on your subjects so you can fulfill your dream.

Don't think that the available job for "Tourism" graduate is only a flight attendant, we can apply in travel agencies, hotel, cruise ships, etc. There's a lot of job opportunities here in the Philippines and other countries.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Yes, my course is flexible. Lots of job opportunities here in the Philippines and abroad. Salary is a bit good because nowadays hotels are very rampant around the world.

About my college education: For me when I was studying in college its all about hard work, enjoyable and challenging. It so fun to learn a new thing, to challenge your self and to get ready for incoming future. I'm so thankful for my past classmates, friends that they came into my life, because of them I challenge to continue my dream, and to be a better person.

My current job: Now I work abroad as a housekeeping attendant.

Am I using what I learned in college: I use the proper cleaning, we learned for passing the NC-2.

How long did it take to find a job: After 1 month. But actually this is my second job, first I worked as a Therapist at Crown Regency Hotel for one year.

Do I recommend studying Hospitality Management: Yes. I realize now its not all about how intelligent you are when you still studying, but after you graduate how you can manage yourself to fulfill your dream. Every success of a person is depends in its own hands.

Why did I choose Hospitality Management: I chose this course because this course is one of the most in demand course and I know I can apply my skills to it. I know how to communicate with people.

About my college education: I really learned a lot in this course. I learned how to cook different kinds of food from other places (Asian Cuisine, International Cuisine). I also learned how to communicate with the customers and lastly I learned how to budget and how to manage your own business.

For me, all of the subjects are difficult but then it depends on how you manage your time and how serious you are in your course. Patience is the key to our success.
