Why did I choose Nutrition and Dietetics: I am someone who is fond of cooking and food. Somehow I knew this course of study is related to those two.

About my college education: With all honesty, what was difficult was the first years of the course. Entering the second semester of the second year was when things got really interesting due to the major food subjects and learning different kind of diets. What I found boring are the minor subjects I had to deal with. Theology, mostly.

My current job: I work as a Nutrition Officer at the City Government of Malolos.
We deal with children below 6 years old and focus on public health, one of the three major fields of Nutrition. It deals with ensuring proper health and nutrition for all, but we are more concerned with children under 6 years old.

Am I using what I learned in college: The knowledge I'm using now in my current job was exactly what we studied back in college, specifically during the last 2 years of my study.

How long did it take to find a job: I graduated on March of 2009 and took a licensure examination on July of the same year. It took me 8 months after passing the board examination before landing my first and current job I mentioned above.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: Very much. There are very few people who take this program. Therefore, we are scarce but the job opportunities are overwhelming. After finishing the program, we can choose to work in the food industry, hospital dietary section, local government units, and other private institutions that calls for skills we are equipped with.

In terms of salary level, everyone has to start with "just enough" although there are some companies who offer "more than just enough".

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Take it. If at first you don't find it interesting, just wait and things will be.

About my college education: When I’m in college I’ve got difficulty in my subjects in Nutrition and Diet Therapy. I’m just an average student. I like it when my subject is food service, like cooking. Yes, it’s very interesting because you deal with the patient’s medical condition by giving them proper nutrition. Yes, I find it difficult but they said if you study well, your subjects won’t be that challenging. I was just the one who made it hard because I didn’t study that well enough back in college. Now I understand how important my course is and how it has helped myself and my family. I’m thankful to my late aunt who encouraged me to take this course.

My current job: I just resigned from my recent job as a canteen supervisor. Now I wanted to have a career which is more in line with the course I took. But since I am already 37 years old, my knowledge in Diet Therapy is now out-to-date. I am in fact looking into possibilities for refresher courses, so I will be brought up to speed.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, as they are very useful to the career I take. If only I had the courage, I would want to apply at a hospital. I just don’t have sufficient knowledge in Diet Therapy. But I have always wanted to work at a hospital, for a change.

How long did it take to find a job: I took the licensure exam in 1996 but I failed due to personal issues I had to sort out while reviewing for the test. After a year, I had a retake and passed this time. It took me a month after I found a job as a nutritionist for a concessionaire in Race Food Co., Inc., in DBP, and International School in Kalayaan, Makati.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: I highly recommend this course to people who want to help people have proper diet. The course also aims to educate people on proper nutrition to prevent diseases.

Why did I choose Nutrition and Dietetics: Honestly, I thought that this course is all about cooking.

About my college education: I thought that this course is all about cooking but I was wrong it's all about giving a diet and computing the caloric content of each individuals. As time goes by, I appreciated and learned to love this course.

Generally Speaking, I learned on how to compute the caloric content of each individuals, how to make a meal plan specifically to those therapeutic patient, how to prepare a complete meal for one day, how to manage a food service industry and lastly in public health, how to address the malnutrition in a barangay, city or LGU.
For me, Renal diet is the most difficult subject that I encountered because it's needed a wide scope of learning and understanding and considered a lot of nutrients that needed to a patient like the sodium, potassium and also the history of their disease. It is very much complicated.

For me the exam was difficult to the person who did not focus/serious on their subject/course. If you don't love your course, the outcome of this are failing on exam and shift to other course. Determination and Hardworking is one of the best required to succeed this course.

My current job: Nutritionist-Dietitian - is the one who take charge on the food that you eaten and the caloric content of every single foods.

Am I using what I learned in college: As my present job, the learning that I usually used that serves as a useful things for me is more on public health. We addressed the malnutrition to our city by giving an intervention like Nutrition Education, Micro-nutrient Supplementation, Food Assistance, Food Fortification, Home, School and Community Food Production, Livelihood Assistance and Maternal and Child Health or what we called 7 impact program.

How long did it take to find a job: It took a 5 months, because I had a licensure exam after I graduated.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: I recommended BS nutrition and dietetics because of having a wide opportunities like in Food service Industry, Hospital, Public Health, Fitness Section and etc.

I worked in local government unit, I earned a low salary but I'm pretty sure in the end you will meet the right and high salary that you want.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Study hard, focus and do your best shot!

Why did I choose Nutrition: I was thinking of having my own food business or working in the government to help in the improvement of the diet and nutrition of the Filipinos, especially the poor. I chose this course because the new world trend is in the area of security and nutrition/food.

About my college education: The course of Nutrition has opened my eyes to the unlimited opportunities in producing enough nutritious food for all Filipinos at a lower price. If only the government concentrated in the production of staple food, all of the Filipinos would have 3 meals a day. With the help of government funds, the problem of malnutrition and food hunger would be solved.

Being inspired, I really worked and studied with such great effort to finish this course in this far flung school.With determination and discipline I was able to finish this course.

My current job: As of now, since the pay in the government is very low and I am about to be a mother, I decided to accept the online work of teaching tutorial English to some Japanese students. The income is sufficient to support our family. The work is most convenient in the sense that I am earning while I work inside my house. This way I can take good care of my child.

Am I using what I learned in college: The novel ways of planting HMOs and making an organic farming were some of the practical things I learned when I was in UPLB. If given the chance, I like to cultivate my own farm and produce high-quality food and show the other farmers on how to make a food industry in their own communities.

How long did it take to find a job: Within six months after graduation I worked in an NGO for awhile. But the pay was not enough for me to stay in Metro Manila.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition: I am strongly endorsing this course of Nutrition to the many young and idealistic people who would like to help in reducing food poverty among our fellowmen. I am hopeful that those who are considering in taking this course will really do something helpful by joining the government and the non-government organizations in producing more food products at very much reduced prices.

About my college education: I had apprehensions in taking the course, but I said to myself, just go for it. So I did and it was good that I did. I get to appreciate how the body absorbs, utilizes and converts all the food we take in into vitamins, minerals, proteins and calories. My professors were able to teach me how each nutrient interacts with each other either by causing the nutrients to be absorbed by the body or not. For example, for Vitamin C to be absorbed really well, it should be taken along with Iron. Once the basics were taught, it's time for the application. I had to go through an on-the-job training at different hospitals to be able to use what I learned. It was difficult because I had to remember all the nutrients and how each one helps the body and apply the learning by taking care of a patient. Through the difficulties, it was rewarding as well because I was able to use all of the learning in my life.

My current job: I currently work in a call center as a content designer for a private company.

Am I using what I learned in college: Not really because I'm not able to practice my course in what I'm doing right now.

How long did it take to find a job: After graduation, it took me almost a year before I'm able to find a job because I still had to take my Licensure Exam.

Do I recommend studying Community Nutrition: I would recommend it because, even if they are not able to use it for others, they could use it for themselves by taking care of what they eat and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Why did I choose Nutrition and Dietetics: My parents chose this course for me.

About my college education: At first I really felt nervous because it was not the course that I wanted. But then, I learned to appreciate and love it.
The skills and attitude required are patience and understanding.

My current job: I am now working as a counselor in a hospital.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I have used everything I've learned. I have used computations and recommendations regarding my patient's problems. Etc..

How long did it take to find a job: 2 months.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: I recommend this course because there are so many opportunities for those taking up BSND, most especially outside the country.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: To those people who are studying this course, I hope that they will truly love the course, because it is really nice and there's so many things that will amaze them most especially in handling the patient's diet most especially the computations.

Why did I choose Nutrition and Dietetics: Because this course is a combination of the two things I have a passion in doing, Culinary and Science.

About my college education: "Boichem" is one of the hardest subject that I've taken. But surprisingly, this subject was the most enjoyable part in my college life. It makes me curious in everything until my head aches. Especially when we are in the laboratory, experimenting some chemicals, figuring out why their reaction was different with one another. Other subjects, especially the GEs always gives me a bore because of the traditional and concrete way they are given.

In succeeding this course, you obviously need to have a good knowledge about what you are studying. And by having that knowledge, you need to have discipline and passion in it. You need to strive harder even if you think you have given all. And if you fail, stand up and do it again. Never give up.

My current job: Currently looking for a job and having the review for the examination for licensure

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Always have fun while studying. You should never look at this course as a boring one. Have the passion in doing it and always be thankful that you have the ability to know things that others can't.

About my college education: Had great experience. Gained lots of friends. Though it's not easy because in my school there was a grade to be maintained for me to be able to stay in that school and graduate. My school has a very high standard quality of education.
Attitude and character were the very important elements, then interpersonal skills, creativity, patience, hard work.

My current job: Business Entrepreneur

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, English, Math skills, hard work, problem solving, creativity/ sales talk.

How long did it take to find a job: Right after graduation

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: Yes, it's in demand. My course is not that popular but it's a great course and you'll earn a lot especially when you work abroad.

Why did I choose Nutrition and Dietetics: I really wanted to pursue a medical course and be a medical professional someday.
But I don't want to take up a course which was taken by everybody. I chose BSND basically because only a few is enrolling in this course. Also, I find it interesting because what you'll study in this course is all about food and it's benefits to our body.

About my college education: The difficult part for me was when I was in my minor years studying Physics, Algebra and the likes. I didn't know how the hell did I pass the said subjects. Haha! But the interesting part is I get to practically use everything I've learn everyday of my life since I graduated.

You must be attentive in everything your professor has to teach you.

My current job: I'm presently a Staff Dietitian in one of the known tertiary hospitals in QC. I'm in-charge of the therapeutic aspect of the Dietary department. I supervise the food service workers while they prepare the patient's food. I do nutrition counselling for patient's needing dietary instructions.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes. I have used and shared everything I learned from school in all the jobs I've been through.

How long did it take to find a job: It just took me almost 2 months to find a job after I passed the board exam.

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: There are lots of opportunities for us RND's, especially that the trend nowadays is gearing towards healthy lifestyle and wellness. Aside from working in a hospital (which is the ideal job for us), I'm also invited as a speaker for some government/ngo's nutrition program.


Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: My advice is don't be bothered when some people are commenting that this course is not known or not in demand to other countries. BSND is really an interesting course once you stayed focused.

About my college education: Got rough on the prerequisites but managed to pass all of it eventually.

My current job: Currently unemployed due to personal reasons.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes.

How long did it take to find a job: Around 2 weeks

Do I recommend studying Nutrition and Dietetics: Yes, I would recommended it to others. Since it is a food and nutrition science related course, it would open you to a lot of opportunities in the field. Every business, every technology, every industry is in need of food and nutrition science-based professional, plus career growth is never ending.
