Why did I choose BSBA in Financial Management: When I was young I wanted to work in a bank just like my father. He asked me after high-school on what course would I choose and I said that I wanted to be like him. He recommended taking a course about financing. That made it more justifiable for me to take this particular course.


About my college education: What I learned while studying at UM is that being observant is important. As a professional he/she must be aware of the surroundings. With that he can easily adapt to what is happening and knows what solution to imply. Anything in the school can be learned from books, lectures, and research but the right attitude can only be attained through self-discipline.

My current job: I’m working as Marketing assistant for globe communications today. I organize market research, arrange promotional events, assist the manager in writing reports and analyzing data. I also help the manager on online traffic with web-related campaigns and I Communicate with clients.

Am I using what I learned in college: All is attainable if we just persist. The student must always be determined, diligent, obedient, and disciplined this traits will take you to success. For me they must not also forget to slow down sometimes and appreciate things close to them because by doing it that is the time that they really learn.

How long did it take to find a job: I thought that it was going to take long but thank god after graduating I easily got to work as sales representative. I was referred by a friend who also worked at that company.

Do I recommend studying BSBA in Financial Management: To graduate Finance management, opportunities of working on banks, private companies, and even abroad opens up.

Salary level of P10,000 – P15,000/month as minimum. If you were to work abroad it would be way much higher.


Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: The student must always be determined, diligent, obedient, and disciplined this traits will take you to success. For me they must not also forget to slow down sometimes and appreciate things close to them because by doing it that is the time that they really learn.
I advice them to always listen to the professors. Even they are strict and terror, try to earn their interest. Absorb what they lecture, comply with the projects and requirements on time. Also give time to read your books and do some research.

Why did I choose BSBA in Financial Management: I see the importance of managing personal & company finances, in my first 2 years in college. So I pushed in to majoring in Finance.

About my college education: I was easy for my cause I really wanted my course. In fact I graduate as a cum laude. But I can't say it was easy for everyone cause not all of my classmates was rewarded with that distinction. To succeed in my course you just need 2 things first patience and second you have to love math.

My current job: Financial Analyst

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, financial statement knowledge. I also use TVM in my personal life. But actually in my daily life I can incorporate lessons such as investment management for my investment plans also other subjects as economics in my everyday life.

How long did it take to find a job: I was already employed, a month before my graduation. My job was waiting for me.

Do I recommend studying BSBA in Financial Management: Actually all. There are so many jobs waiting for finance graduated considering it's really not a the choice of most students because as they say it's "scary". But honestly even my blockmates who are not cum laude's didn't have a hard time seeking a job because it's everywhere you just have to choose your own selected field.

Salary depends on the job that you prefer, this is the case for all jobs. But in my case my starting salary is around 20k

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Everyone say it's "scary" but I had block mates who weren't that good in math but graduated in that degree. Its because of their perseverance to finish the course. So it's really not impossible.

Why did I choose BSBA in Financial and Management Accounting: I chose BS in Business Administration because I knew to my self that I am interested to it. I'm a business minded person since first before I took that course.

About my college education: The course is quite difficult because of many accounting subjects, it is more on intellectual, decision making than memorizing. This course is more on thesis, but I survive. And the most enjoyable that I experienced was when we did a new business idea, that is our project, we create a unique business then sell it to our school then boom we got a 1.00 grade in that subject and also we have an extra income. :)
Yeah, there were somebody failed and some of them repeated the subjects or shifted to other courses. But this all I can say No Pain No Gain. Just study hard, do all your best, and focus.

My current job: I am working now in BANCO DE ORO, UNIBANK. My position there is accounting assistant, where we are balancing the daily transactions of the bank branch such as the debit and credit of the bank, checks, and the client's transactions.

Am I using what I learned in college: I learned to be independent. Just be yourself. And the lessons I took in college like accounting problems, and decision makings, I used it now in my job.

How long did it take to find a job: April 2013 when my graduation march then after one week I found a job in the internet then BDO was my first choice so I applied and thanks God I passed the exams and interview then June 3, 2013 date of hired and that was the starting of my work.
And now, I am working one year in my company and I'm so much happy because I'm near to my success.

Do I recommend studying BSBA in Financial and Management Accounting: Now a days, business courses are in demand to the company because we are now in the business world. They need you. Many companies are rising right now with their business products.

Fresh graduate, don't be choosy because in reality the salary range you will earn from the start is 13k to 16k, but don't worry it will be higher when you work for a year in your company.


Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: I advice to the students who entering college, when you choosing a course be sure you are interested to it. Business Administration course have a different majors, major in marketing, logistics management, entrepreneurship, human resources, financial and management accounting. Why did I choose BSBA in Financial Management: I chose this course because I firstly thought it would be like BS Accountancy, but as soon as I was enrolled and got into the course, I took back what I thought financial management would be. I chose to study Financial Management because of the versatility of it's course outline. I also chose this course because right there and then when you finish studying this course it would give multiple working opportunities as well as you can be very versatile into different kinds of job opportunities.

About my college education: I found Financial Management as difficult but very fun and exciting. It helps you think critically by making you think everything outside a box. It's making you very mature, disciplined and responsible. It may make you think that some other subjects of the course aren't quietly related to the course itself but when you are in the deeper side of the course you can find that every thing that you can see is connected to financial management.
Skills and attitude that is required in this course is that you must be a critical thinker enough to understand situational problems. Why did I choose BSBA in Financial Management: I transferred from BS-Accountancy to BSBA-Major in financial management. Financial Management focuses more on the operational cash flow of the corporation or of a company.

About my college education: What I cannot forget in this course is everything about good and bad investments.
The subjects that are most difficult would probably be the minor subjects (Rizal, NSTP, PE, mostly are the ones who would fail the students even if it is a minor subject. Especially NSTP, they are very strict and high standards in that subject matter.)

Investment is the most useful, you can see investment in your everyday life. It makes you to think more of a businessman than an ordinary person.

Major subjects are very difficult but the ones who aim to have no line of 7 can do it better than the others, no, some others shift course, but just in a different major.

I believed that one of the most difficult exams and assignments to pass is Law & Finance. This subjects have failed many students.

we have a feasibility study implementation in college which serves as an OJT, it's a subject where we create feasibility study and turn it into a business and managing it on our own. There, I Was able to apply what I learned inside the classroom.

About my college education: Since the day that I shifted, it became easy for me, I never got to experience studying overnights, studying endlessly, I just study for utmost 3 hours. But What I didn't knew was, the course was interesting after all, it teaches us how to manage our funds, where to put them, studying financial markets and the like. I get to use this practically in the future when I have funds.

The skills that I needed to achieve the course was consistency, I was an average student consistent B (or mostly Bs) while sometimes I would get below that and sometimes higher than that but that is my Average, if I felt that I needed to study, then I study to get me back to average. Attitude, determination are keys for the success of my course.

My current job: I don't have an 8 hour job, but I am a insurance agent thus would mean financial consultant.

About my college education: As an optimist, I would say that my chosen course is both challenging and interesting because it is already a package of the other courses offered in our college such as Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Major in Marketing Management and Economics. As a finance major, we are not only taught about the basics and essentials of running a business but also the side of business financing and investments which I believe is a very important factor when you want to be successful in running a business. One must possess dedication to work and a drive to succeed because in Financial Management, it's all about money, financing and investments. You cannot be successful in putting up and running a business if you don't have the aforementioned qualities and attitude. Business world is not always a happy place since investments fluctuate that is why if you want to succeed, you may want to direct yourself and be prepared (through strategy-making and tactics) for future turmoils that you may experience.

Am I using what I learned in college: The things I learned in college was definitely practical. For instance, I never knew what is the significance of the stock market in relation to our country and economy and I never knew why the fluctuations of the peso to dollar rate would affect almost all of the prices of our country's commodities. Through finance, I have understood how the stock market plays. Our stock market is an indicator of whether the country is progressing or not and whether investments are becoming attractive for foreign investors. Finance has a lot in store for everyone. Do I recommend studying BSBA in Financial Management: This course would really be practical for everybody since as a Business Administration and Finance major would really be fit to any industry here in our country. Business and Finance go hand in hand and they are everywhere. You are considered a professional and it is never a boring career.

In terms of salary level, the opportunities are high since one can work in Banks, Big Corporations, any business (big or small) in the country or even in the government. The pay is definitely high even when you are just a fresh graduate.

Why did I choose BSBA in Financial Management: I initially wanted marketing. In my course, we take two years of basic business and take our major the next two years. Through the course of studying, I got interested in global economics and money market instruments. I thought marketing was something I could already do, and investments was a whole new realm so I decided to dip into the challenge.

About my college education: The basic business part was easy. Hell started after that. It was difficult, honestly, plus the chairman of the course (also our prof) was a monster. No kidding. I always found myself trying to catch up, not just me but a lot of us. In our college, this major has the most failed students. This course requires a lot of perseverance and self-confidence or it would make you crazy. It also needs heaps of coffee and brain cells. One must keep a positive attitude and outlook at all times and good time management. One also needs to have a handful of friends so you always have someone to ask for help. Being grade-conscious is not necessary, but it is a plus.

My current job: None yet. I haven't applied yet since I'm on yolo mode. It was a tiring college life, I want to breathe on fresh air for a while.

Am I using what I learned in college: In this course and other commerce courses, the problems are real world and quantifiable situations. I used Accounting principles and Taxation in my practicum. Law on Obligations and Contracts is also a very useful learning. In a job interview I had (we got invited, we need not apply), I had been asked about market instruments, global markets, and the stock exchange.

How long did it take to find a job: I don't have a job yet, but some of my classmates have jobs now. It took them around less than a month to a month. There was enough free time between final exams and graduation for applying.

Do I recommend studying BSBA in Financial Management: Courses in finance, accountancy and marketing are sure employment generators. Every company needs these type of people.
As for salary level, it does offer a competent salary so far, through my research. But as an entry level I don't expect much. It has, although, the capacity of earning high after promotions or enough years of experience.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Like I mentioned earlier, it is very important to take this course with friends so that help is at hand. I didn't, and I regret it. Group studying is very effective because in this course, one must always be armed before going to class. When you read on your own, it's like alien language and it could be very boring. Coffee and fast food is a staple. Never go hungry, so that your brain is equipped with brain cells ready to get burned. A positive attitude and ample self-confidence is necessary to combat frustrations from failure. Hold on to your goals all the time (stick them on the wall or something) so that when you feel down, you will see the reason why you're still striving. And lastly, never ever give up. If you feel like giving up after reading this advice, then better pick another course. It is not for the faint-hearted.

About my college education: Well It was not difficult and easy just an average course. Accounting was my major subject.

Because They thought it's all about numbers and solving mathematical problems but It's not like that. There were a lot of difficult subjects that surely made myself twisted whenever I entered the class but with motivation and determination. Thank God I passed those subjects.
