About my college education: Having spent four years of my life in CPU is a great experience. I was guided and shaped to become an individual who wants to excel at my chosen field and who will strive hard to become that person I want to be.

I took up Bachelor of Arts major in Psychology mainly because I was interested on how people behave. I wanted to study and understand why people act on a certain degree and manner. Because I took Psychology as a course, it was important for me to have good interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. This means being able to stand my ground and defend my own opinions at the same time, respecting what others think. I had to have those skills in order to work well with my classmates and schoolmates. I have to be observant too and should analyze things first before making a conclusion on different aspects. My course also made me a well-rounded individual. This allowed me to meet people in all walks of life. And through this, I learned to adjust, to be patient and creative in dealing with them. I learned how to approach people in different moods and through their gestures or body language.

My current job: I'm a Speech Pathology Assistant.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes. I do practice what I learned from the university. I apply the theories I learned and the way I deal with people. I work with special children and without my background about them, I would not know what to do.

How long did it take to find a job: Before graduation (about 3 weeks ahead), the job was already offered to me. So, I did not wait that long. A week after graduation, I started working.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: If you're a person who is patient enough to observe and analyze things or people, then this course is for you. For me, I find it interesting and at the same time fulfilling because you get to meet different people everyday. You get to talk to them and you get to help them through that. About the salary, this really depends on the company or school or the like that you are in and what kind of job you are doing. Psychology is a broad course. You can specialize in Clinical or in Human Resource and your compensation depends on the field you'll specialize in. But the important thing is, it's also stable.

Why did I choose Psychology: I chose this course because I've always been interested in human behavior and on how it corresponds to the human mind. With this course, I am able to feed my curiosity, learn more about human beings, and apply them through society.

About my college education: AB Psychology has always been stereotyped with mind reading and fortune-telling. People always ask me what they are thinking or if that I can read their minds. With the said course, we were able to break that stereotype. I honestly thought it was an easy course at first. Little did I know that it involved a lot of theories. It was really challenging because you had to be open-minded and you had to really read what was asked of you, or else you'd end up embarrassing yourself in front of your classmates in an oral recitation. You also have to be logical, rational, and reasonable at the same time. It's the only way you can survive the arguments and the course with it.

My current job: I'm a technical support representative. I answer inbound calls from the United States and assist them with their technical issues.

Am I using what I learned in college: Not necessarily, all I'm using is the building rapport and empathy towards the customers. I sometimes apply what I have learned towards my other colleagues who seem a bit off.

How long did it take to find a job: Not very long actually, it only took me a month to realize that I couldn't just mope around at home remaining unproductive. So in a month's time, I was able to get a job.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes I would recommend my course. Psychology has tons of fields: Industrial, Clinical, Educational, and Community. The world is your oyster and there are a lot of companies out there who are looking for Psychology graduates like us. We excel on so many levels that they could basically assign us anywhere and we'd be fine by it.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: It's fun. Don't worry about a thing, the teachers might just seem strict but they're actually pretty down to earth and smart. Read, read, read! Love what you are doing and things will always get interesting.

Why did I choose Psychology: At first, there was a curiosity in me on how the mind works and why people behave the way they do and I was also open to the possibility of later on pursuing law should I decide to.

About my college education: It was fun for me because my college was a great opportunity for me to discover my strengths and areas for improvement.

In order to succeed in this course, diligence and persistence is required. It helps to be knowledgeable in technical writing as there are many research requirements in this course.

Interpersonal skills is a must because aside from regular interaction with peers and professors, the College encourages students to be involved in outreach projects (in prison, slum areas just to name a few)

Analytical skills can be learned but it is an advantage to have as it will come into play when Counseling Psych is taken.

Math Skills, believe it or not, also needed in the course. Towards the students' 3rd and 4th year, Statistics will be used and analysis of data (which includes a lot of computing). It won't hurt to have a know how on solving numerical and word problems.

My current job: Psychometrician / Industrial Relations Officer in the HR Dept.
Involved in sourcing, screening, testing applicants for the workplace.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I am using the principles and techniques in Test Administration and Psychological Evaluation Report writing.

Since I am also involved in screening applicants, the interview techniques taught in class was utilized as well.

My interpersonal skills have also been developed well in college that is why today, it is much easier for me to interact and with different kinds of people from all walks of life.

How long did it take to find a job: It took me about 1 month to find my first job. A lot of employers, I found out, like knollers (or graduates of Miriam College)

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes, I would recommend AB Psychology in pursuing a career in Human Resources (or springboard for Law)

All successful companies need the services of an HR personnel (to manage their employee efficiently, source, screen and train qualified candidates, handle timekeeping, compensation and benefits, implement disciplinary actions, and care for the well being of employees). There is so much to be done to maintain and develop a company so there is always an abundance of job opportunities out there.

Getting employed and practicing my course is fulfilling in the sense that I, along with other HR Officers, pave the way for people to get employed. Employment gives Filipinos an opportunity to earn so that ones family can have food, shelter, and clothing. Picture this, because an HR personnel/ recruiter rightly places a father in a company and is now gainfully employed, the father can now provide for his children who will finish school eventually work to consequently contribute to society and essentially, break the cycle of poverty.

The salary can be depends on the company but it can pay really well especially in foreign companies. There is also a demand in IT recruiters so it the compensation is competitive.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Determine your goals in life. Psychology is a good course when you plan to pursue a career in Human Resource (plus when you finish college and decide to continue on becoming a Lawyer, Psych is also a good pre-Law course)

About my college education: The BS in Psychology program at SLU can be perceived as both challenging yet quite fulfilling. As this is a Bachelor of Science course, one should expect to complete subjects that require research, descriptive and inferential statistics, and some laboratory work in medical and major subjects.

Although it is often perceived by the general public as a pre-medicine course, the subjects and immersion opportunities provided, are more apt for education and assessment/testing career prospects. Examples of on-the-job training that a BS Psych student at SLU will undergo would be:

• Student Counselor – Through the Guidance Center, all graduating college students are assigned to the university’s Laboratory Elementary and High Schools, as well as in various schools in provinces near Baguio City, to provide basic Guidance and Counseling Services.

• SLU College Entrance Exam (SLU-CEE) Proctor – students entering their senior year may apply as Exam Proctors who shall assist during the university’s entrance exam.

For one to fully benefit from and succeed in this course, one shall need to acquire the following skills and behaviors:

• Statistics and Analysis – A common misconception is that Psychology students do not often need to use their math skills. While the course does not require higher math skills, a critical requirement is one’s capability to perform statistical calculations and analysis. This skill is a must-have to be able to be successful in the research required for major subjects.

• Research and Documentation – Although students will be taught how to properly create research papers in their minor subjects, the output required of most, if not all, of the major courses in BS Psych are research papers and journals/diaries.

• Presentation and Facilitation Skills – Aside from having to present research findings, BS Psych students usually facilitate energizers, games, and other activities that would foster holistic development through teamwork, self-awareness, values formation, etc. This is similar to the experience of facilitating homeroom subjects for elementary and high school students.

• Interpersonal Skills – The BS Psychology course at SLU is a gateway to a plethora of social and career opportunities. Students must have the skills to communicate and relate with people from all walks of life and all ages to be successful in, at least one, of the many career paths that they can take following graduation from the course.

My current job: Aside from being a Freelance Writing and Transcription Professional, I am currently a freelance Human Resources Consultant. I specialize in the following disciplines:

Am I using what I learned in college: Most of the skills and knowledge that I picked up in college have been very helpful in my 13 years in the workforce:

• Like most people, I have a disliking for Mathematics. However, I found myself in a lot of situations involving statistical computation and analysis. This skill I picked up in college, has helped me be objective in making decisions. The data and analysis that I present to my potential and current clients, have also helped me get my proposals approved.

• My experience as a Student Counselor and deeper understanding of the human psyche has provided me with the foundation in conducting team-building sessions, focus-group discussions, executive coaching, and HR Training to audiences from all walks of life.

How long did it take to find a job: It took me less than a month to acquire my first job as a Guidance Counselor for High School students.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: One major reason why I enrolled in BS Psychology was because of the employment opportunities it presented. Graduates of this course would find a lot of opportunities, locally and abroad, in:

About my college education: My education was interesting because it was my choice, my passion, my interest because I want to learn the behaviors of people and learn how to solve them through the application of theories and experiments at the same time learning in the business or industrial setting. It is difficult because many are strict professors but with a kind-hearted person. Teachers failed students who are lazy and not studying. Enjoyable because you discover things and situations that you've never encounter as a student as they say first timer! Challenging! of course because you deal with real people's behavior, you may predict their decisions and at the same time look for your friends, bestpals, and loving partner in the future.

Required skilled as a student I should say you must be a wide reader, loves books, interpersonal skills, logical, English, hardwork, confidence, critical mindedness, "pakisama"and "madiskarte" meaning even if your not that intelligent you have the ways and means to pass the subjects.

My current job: As of now I am a Paralegal in a private Law firm. My previous work are as HR Admin Assitant, Recruitment, Tourgide, Book Specialist.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes it is practical, I learned and apply it in my career. I used the strategies, theories, applications, experimentations, training, surveys, interviews, techniques, styles, research work in fields, and behavioral responses that gives me an edge to be with people whom I can trust with.

How long did it take to find a job: It was not hard to look for a job since my course can be in medical and industrial field. It took me 3 months to find a job and do also my part time business as freelance-tourguide, buy and sell, and research works.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes! definitely I recommend this course for employment opportunities because of the wide scope of your skills and talents that's why many companies will look for you. As what I've said it can be your career and at the same time managing your own time and business. When you learn the right way you can demand your salary level and unlimited income because of your expertise and learnings.

Why did I choose Psychology: My first course was BS Applied Mathematics but my mathematical capabilities were not tough enough to surpass the challenges of the said course so I shifted to BA Psychology. I chose Psychology because the behavior of children amazes me and I want to study more about them.

About my college education: Studying BA in Psychology was reading tons of books, journals and articles. It was enjoyable because you got to know why people behave a certain way. It was interesting to theoretically know the dynamics of the emotions and reasoning of a person.

My current job: I am a SPED Teacher.

Am I using what I learned in college: Aside from the lessons that I have learned from the psychology classes, UP has taught me to be more respectful and tolerant of other people. UP has taught me that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Hard work and dedication are two values that UP has cultivated in me.

How long did it take to find a job: I was absorbed by a school to work as a Guidance Counselor a day after my graduation.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: There is a wide range of employment opportunities for those BA Psychology graduates. It is fulfilling to inspire people and help people when it comes to dealing with their behavior.

Salary-wise, earning a degree in psychology will be more rewarding after one takes postgraduate studies in psychology.


Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: A high school graduate must consider his or her interests first before finally enrolling in BA in psychology. It must be his or her passion to help people deal with their own problems. It must be natural for him or her to inspire and offer solutions to life's problems that one is encountering.

Moreover, studying psychology does not end after getting a college diploma. It is a lifelong process of learning and taking in new information because psychology is dynamic.

Why did I choose Psychology: I wanted to study the art in the behavior of human beings. I believe that each and everyone of us is different and unique and I wanted to know how and what makes us special from the others, how behaviors, characteristics and attitudes are made.

About my college education: BA Psychology is a lighter course than BS Psychology. It's the counter-part of those who are planning to study in med schools after the undergrad course (although I don't get it why there's such thing as BS Psych non-med-track course). Students of BA Psych have the option to take minor in Sped. If not, they have the freedom to choose any electives they want each semester by their 2nd year.

BA Psychology is mostly about research, so if you're not into reading, you might find the course difficult. There are only a few students who shifted to another course. Most of the exams are multiple choice + essays. The most essential trait to fit in this course is being understanding.

My current job: I am currently working under Pag-IBIG Fund, Human Resource Services Group, under the Employee Career Management and Training Division.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes and No. Since my course is theoretical, the things I've learned in school cannot be taken practically, but yes, I was able to use it when analyzing the employees that I deal with everyday. However, the things I've learned in school made me a better person since my course is therapeutical. I was able to understand myself first and became a stronger woman before I graduate.

How long did it take to find a job: The job was already waiting for me before I graduated.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes, because the course can give you a wide job opportunities.

Why did I choose Psychology: I was a lost high school student. I did well in terms of my studies and relationship with friends and family. But there was a problem, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life in the near future. So what I did was, I thought of that ONE person I have always looked up to and that is my Mom. I have always admired her with everything that she have accomplished and said to myself, "I want to be just like her". So I took the same course as hers.

About my college education: In my course I have learned countless ways of analyzing, studying and examining human behaviour in my daily life. It is quite amazing how you can easily determine a person's character just by observing their actions and behaviors in their environment. Other than studying about the major parts of this course I also had to take minor subjects, which I actually had difficulty. Mostly in Theology. Being a Born Again student in a Catholic school had been difficult for me. Facing questions in which I do not know the answer to (having different beliefs). I even had an argument with one of my professors because of one specific detail in the bible that rather made me curious but had him believe that I was mocking his belief. But I was rather curious so we ended up having a debate which was quite nice because in an argument you always tend to learn something.

One of the, most useful thing I have learned, probably, is my persuasive skills. It is not something they teach you in my course actually but something you learn from within after a few years of studying. As you study the human behavior and relation of people, you tend to learn how to react and convince, and persuade. As long as you pay attention to their character you get to understand what they want. What they're weaknesses and strengths are and you can use that to your advantage.

Exams were never difficult for me. A lot of students though had a hard time studying but I never had the same experience. A lot of people fail but they try to get back up, some of those who never fought shifted courses but I was not that close with them. You know why I never had difficulties in my exams? Because I am surrounded with good friends who also sets good influence on me. No, we were not all good, perfect, never having fun type of person, no. You rarely see us holding a book. But during class hours, we listen tentatively. We pay attention to our professors and asks for questions when in need.

In able to succeed in this course you should know your priorities, know when to focus and when to have fun. You don't have to follow every rule. To study everyday? Or read? Or not go out? No. Because the human body needs rest at times. Im the type of person who studies when I need to study, and study it by heart. But when you have a free time, you go out with friend, and have fun. Because if you don't do it, you'll be missing on something. You'll be having perfect grades and perfect attendance without having to know the true meaning and value in life. You wouldn't know what would really matter. A person is not just smart by books but by reality as well. You can never survive real-life without applying yourself in it. I have a great family and friends who shower me with happiness and blessings and that alone inspires me to do well in school. The love of everyone around me pushes my heart, mind and soul to study and learn more and I think that the best key for succeeding in this course, finding the right inspiration. It may not be perfect, you may not be perfect at all time. But perfectly imperfect feeling is better than just being plain perfect. You never learn anything in perfection.

My current job: I am an HR representative at Shell company. I work with Shell for the hiring, recruiting and training division of the company. We observe the flow of the business and sends feedbacks and review to the higher division.

How long did it take to find a job: Before I even graduated Shell company had already called me up for an interview. A month before my graduation, I have been receiving calls from them and now I am an official employee of Shell. It may have took me 7 interviews before being an official employee but it was worth the wait.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: My advice is to find that passion in life that will make you want to strive even more. A student can never be perfect in everyone's eyes. Do not let anybody bring you down. I have had successes and difficulties throughout this course but I never gave up. Find that passion. Find that strive. And with that, you will learn how to rise from the occasion and see that you can do it and no one can ever bring you down. Another advice is to serve as an inspiration. You see, a lot of students tend to think about themselves. How people see them as a smart, pretty, rich student but, really, it's not about that. It's how people sees you as an inspiration to them. Show them that you are someone to look up to, not someone who is hated. Yes, people will hate and hate. But you cant really do anything about this, instead, you can just laugh and silently prove to them that you're not just that. You're not just a party-goer, rich, know-it-all type of person, because you are not, and you should not be like

Why did I choose Psychology: I was very interested in observing how I respond to situations, and people's facial expressions and body language. Also, I had a test when I was in third year high school, administered by our Guidance Counselor, that measured our proficiency and interest in various subjects. I got highest in Psychology.

About my college education: I learned more than just the theories that are being studied in a Psychology classroom. I learned more about the various personalities of people, the possible causes associated with them, and how people treat situations, etc. This is also what I found most useful thing that I learned in Psychology because I can use it everyday, and I can deviate my way of thinking from what is conventional, and challenge what people already set as the norm.

Subjects/assignments that are most difficult are basically those that are math-related. If there's one thing I'm quite sure I'm weak at, that's math.

A lot of people shifted to another course but the problem is not with Psychology or the professors (although I find one particular professor who's not fit for teaching), the problem is with the mindset the students had when taking Psychology as a course. Psychology is for those who want to understand other people more and apply that knowledge in the "playing field" so to speak. Sadly, most Psychology students take it as a means of "stepping stone" for another course such as Medicine and Law, or worse, take it just because they can't think of any other course, and Psychology is the most available.

My current job: I'm currently a document controller for an Italian-owned company based in the UAE.
I manage documents received from and to our department, which includes filing of printed client documents and drawings, communicating with clients and subcontractors through email, and logging and storing received and sent documents and drawings in the main company server.

Am I using what I learned in college: The jobs I took after graduation are not at all related to Psychology, but Psychology for me is an everyday thing. I worked for a call center company for about 4 years and the things I learned in Psychology are pretty useful in handling customers, be it in sales, troubleshooting issues, or just talking to people in general.

How long did it take to find a job: A few months.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: In terms of employment opportunities in the Philippines, I wouldn't really recommend BS Psychology. And even if you get a job related to Psychology in the Philippines, the pay is not that rewarding. However, if you can take a masteral degree, then yes, you'll get more opportunities, but the pay is still not that high, unless you can land a job as an HR officer in a high-end company.

In terms of getting a fulfilling or interesting career, it really depends on your preference. Office jobs to me are never fulfilling unless you get to meet or talk to a lot of different people. If you get a job in a mental institution, now that's where the adventure starts. Pay is not fulfilling, but interviewing patients, and being able to help them is just the most satisfying feeling you can get in a career. Well at least for me.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Take Psychology because you want to help yourself and other people in terms of psychological well-being. Before you criticize other people's emotional, and/or mental issues, criticize yourself first, and the things you need to change within yourself.

About my college education: My education in UP is both enjoying and challenging at the same time. All subjects, whether major or minor, require extensive efforts for you to pass them. This is a research-oriented university, so I already expected that there were a lot of research works and written reports to be submitted.

The things I learned from my subjects were very interesting for me and it feels like everyday is indeed a learning experience. A Psychology student, in order to be successful, must have the following skills:

1. Writing skills
2. Analytical skills
3. Critical thinking
4. Math and English skills
5. Interpersonal skills

Apart from the mentioned skills, a student of Psychology must be diligent and responsible for him to meet the requirements of this course.

My current job: Currently, I am working as a freelance writer. I write articles on different niches and I am also into academic writing (primarily in the field of Psychology). I chose this career while I am waiting for the first Psychometrician Licensure Exam in the Philippines.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I apply the things I learned in college. Since I write articles on different topics, I was able to make use of the knowledge I gained even from my minor subjects. Aside from the field itself, my professors were able to instill the necessary skills and values that I need to be competent and succeed in my chosen career. My course didn't just teach me WHAT to think, but rather taught me HOW to think (critically and creatively).

How long did it take to find a job: It took me less than a month to find a job and start working after graduation.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes, I would recommend this course to anybody. There are a lot of job opportunities in the Philippines as well as in other countries that require graduates of Psychology.

You can work as:

1. An HR professional
2. A guidance counselor in school
3. A psychometrician
4. A clinical psychologist (although additional units might be requred)

The entry level salary for Psychology graduates ranges from PhP12,000-PhP15,000.

About my college education: My education is a mix of being interesting, difficult, enjoyable, and challenging. There is always something to learn everyday but you must be focused in terms of understanding it, because there may be a lot of topics that are extra challenging.

I think all the skills are required for this course because there are different subjects you need to take up.

My current job: I am an online writer for different topics although I mostly deal with SEO-related ones. I covered medical-legal writing, psychology, and academic ones.

Am I using what I learned in college: One of my clients require me to write psychology themed SEO articles so I write about different kinds of mental illness, rehabilitation, and treatment. I used what I learned in one of my psychology classes.

How long did it take to find a job: I was already working before after I graduated. The company took me in full-time.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Basically, it is expected that you proceed to law or medicine if you take up this course. However, there is still a lot of employment opportunities if ever one is not interested to become a lawyer or a doctor. Most probably, one will be thrown in the area of Human Resources (HR) and there are many jobs available for those who want to become an HR personnel.

If you are interested with people and changes and progress in work environments, then this will be a fulfilling an interesting career.

As for salary level, one will not get so much from this course. But as you experience more in the field and you are interested in taking a masteral degree about the field, then there is a big money waiting for you.

About my college education: My college life is full great memories. met a lot of friends along the way. most friends that i have been with are from the higher batch. one major reason why it wasn't that fun anymore when they all graduated and i got stuck with my batchmates. I was part of the school's Peer Counseling Society and was even once the President of its National Chapter. I learned a lot from that group and helped me a lot to survive college life.

My current job: Im a Team Manager in one of the Top Call Centers in Manila. I can say that the field of study that I took up in college can still be applied in my job now since im basically handling people and also conducting the final interview as part of the hiring process.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes. I can say that the things i learned from school is helpful and of great use in my current and chosen career path.

How long did it take to find a job: It didnt take long before i get a job after graduation. The company I worked with was the same company where i completed my On-The-Job Training when i was in Senior year. I stayed in the company for almost 2yrs and moved on to the call center industry afterwards.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: I would still recommend my school to future college students because I know that the people who works in my previous school will definitely help and assist them. They will help those students not only to be successful in their careers in life but also will make them understand how will they deal with the outside and "real" world.

Why did I choose Psychology: I always wanted to have the power to read peoples' mind, and psychology is the next best thing!

About my college education: AB Psychology is for everyone. Like every course in college, Psychology requires patience and should be taken with a pinch of salt. From Sigmund Freud to salivating dogs, one must argue that Psychology will truly amaze everyone. As a student, expect it to be fun, engaging but also challenging, you will be pushed out of your comfort zone, you will get to understand not just yourself but everyone around you. Maturity will play a big role as you advance in the study, you will get to learn the necessary tools to evaluate a person, to predict a behavior of a person, and become a person as a whole.

My current job: I am a Training Coordinator, I deal with training employees Soft and Hard Skills. I Facilitate team buildings, and company bondings equipped with scientific data that will target specific problems within a company that is needed to be resolved with fun activities based on Psychology Studies. It is fun and very engaging because I get to meet people and interact with people from all walks of life. It is Socially fulfilling and also a ride that would not dare dare miss

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I have applied everything I have learned in college. As a Training Coordinator we base our activities and processing on Psychology Reports and analysis. A simple activity before being an activity is composed of intense scientific research based from psychology books and human observation which makes it enjoyable.

How long did it take to find a job: It only took me a Month before I get Hired, it is that fast and easy.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: I really do recommend it, Psychology is the "MOST FLEXIBLE" course! you will get to choose from 3 paths
1. Office Setting (Human Resource, Training, Research, etc.)
2. School Setting (If you like kids, you'll get to work in a school and be a Guidance Councilor or better yet be a Principal, now how cool is that?)
3. Clinical Setting (You'll get to work with Doctors that deals with Human Behavior)

And those 3 paths doesn't end there, it branches out into different career paths that you choose.
Psychology will take you anywhere and everywhere you want to go.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: If you are ready to be in an adventure that consist of Human Behavior, then you are on the right track. My only advice is free your mind.

About my college education: The school schedule wasn't tight but my degree in Psychology was quite a challenge and fun too. I'd say you need to be perceptive and have analytical skills.

Am I using what I learned in college: I was able to use Math practically speaking, the confidence I have now and the discipline the I learned during my entire years in school apart form what I've learned at home made a difference. In life basically, all you need is common sense and perseverance. There are a lot of things that one learns in college but are not really able to apply these in the real world.

How long did it take to find a job: It took a while. had I not started with part-time jobs, I wouldn't be where I am now.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes I would, especially if one strives to work for a Human Resource Department, recruitment or maybe become a psychologist or psychiatrist by taking up a master's degree. It is fulfilling with a much better compensation not to mention the thrill of being able to read people's personality and behavior.

About my college education: Honestly, I had a rough time in college. My course required me to enhance my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, critical thinking skills, and creativity. Studying psychology made me realized that I could actually help a lot of people; not just listen, but to understand and help them think objectively. This course made me who I am today.

My school has a good reputation. People expect a lot from it's students, thus, challenging me to become one of the best. I couldn't say I was forced to become exceptionally good, but UP taught me to strive and try hard to always be outstanding.

My current job: I am currently a freelance writer and a tutor.

Am I using what I learned in college: Recently, I've been writing articles regarding human resource. When I was in college, I took a subject about Industrial and Organizational Behavior. I use the knowledge I gained from that subject in writing my articles.

Moreover, one of my student had General Psychology as one of her subjects last semester, so I was able to freshen up my memory about the course while I was teaching her.

How long did it take to find a job: Before I graduated, I already had an offer from a bank. However, I chose not to take it because I was planning to enter medical school.

When I finally decided to rest from studying for a while and work for the meantime, it took me a week to find a job as an educator. Although, I had some health problems and I was advised by the doctor to take rest so I resigned and looked for an online job instead.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes, I would highly recommend it. Psychology is not an ordinary course. It will require you to be more understanding and sympathetic yet still rational and objective. Psychology will give anyone a sense of fulfillment especially if they are interested in dealing with people and their personalities.

Furthermore, employment opportunities do not run out if you are a psychology graduate. You can be a human resource manager, a guidance counselor, a professional adviser, and even a doctor or a lawyer (if you want to continue it up to that level). Plus, don't worry about the salary. You will be paid according to your job level and it gets high when you become the best in that field, just like any other profession.

About my college education: My academic experience was a perfect combination of challenge and enjoyment. The four-year course passed like a bliss and taught me not only the academic things I needed to learn but also the character that I had to develop for me to cope well with my future work environment.

As a psychology student, the most important qualities you need in order to successfully complete the course are your interpersonal skills, a strong memory and your high tolerance for pressure. Why? Because the same qualities needs to be sharpened for future use in the actual practice of psychology.

My current job: I am currently juggling part-time jobs: theater teacher, volunteer counselor to orphans and personal counselor to a businessman.

Am I using what I learned in college: I am definitely using what I have learned from college. In my previous job, my knowledge about industrial psychology has been excessively utilized. At present, my research and psychological assessment skills are being used and I am very fond of improving them for my plan of pursuing further studies.

How long did it take to find a job: It only took me 3 months to get a job after graduation. I worked as an HR Assistant for 2 years.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Yes. Psychology offers a variety of employment opportunities wherever a graduate goes (academic, clinical and industrial) . The graduate can actually choose any path that will fulfill his personal calling while earning above average compensation.

Why did I choose Psychology: I chose this course because I'm really interested on studying human behavior and how one affects the other socially.

About my college education: One of the difficult aspects of the course is that you will be required to read a lot of books, articles and other literary pieces. Most of these articles are long, wordy and usually boring.

However, in my opinion, reading these articles can also be interesting. Depending on your interest, you will enjoy reading some. Personally, I loved reading about Freud and Positive Psychology which later on was my choice for my thesis.

To succeed in this course, one should be very patient in learning because like I've said you need to read many articles. One should also have a positive- "never give-up" attitude which will help when times get rough especially when Statistics come to play.

My current job: I work as an Advertising Sales Associate for a Health Communications company. I have an 8-hour shift in the office where I am a support to the Sales Team as well as coordinator to clients which mostly are Pharmaceuticals. Moreover, I act as an Executive Assistant to the VP-Sales as well as doing occasional telemarketing.

Am I using what I learned in college: I can say that it is practical in a sense that I was able to understand why people are who they are and how they've possibly become like that. I tend to be more understanding towards my family, friends and even strangers because of my background in Psychology. Moreover, because of studying this course, I feel that I became more compassionate and more positive than I was before.

Because of this, it had helped me in my past jobs as an online English tutor and Art teacher to kids since I was able to be more patient with them and taught me not to get frustrated easily. In my current job, although being a sales woman is far from what a person from Psychology should do (e.g. Doctor, lawyer, HR personnel, etc), having a background on Psychology helped me how to approach my clients and how to sort of assess them in a way on how I will talk to them or sway them in buying our products.

How long did it take to find a job: After I graduated I found a part-time job after a month. Afterwards, I worked for the family business then went to the states for 3 months. When I got back it only took my two weeks before I got in my current job.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: I do not recommend it if you're aiming for a high salary since I believe that AB Psychology is a general course with no exact specialty. You, however can be fit to several jobs but I think high paying companies nowadays prefer those who finished with business courses such as management, accountancy/finance, marketing, etc.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Go for it! You will learn a lot about life.

About my college education: Being a Psychology student requires someone to be observant of his surroundings. You need to be a people person, someone who loves to motivate people. Being an analytic thinker would help you a lot, patience must be endless since you will be dealing with people with mental illness if you choose to be on the clinical field. Must love reading books, because that's our only tool guys, theories, principles etc... Will definitely bombard you. May it be on the industrial, educational or clinical field, you need to be all of those mentioned above. That was just some points you need to be and to have if you are planning to take the course.

My current job: My previous job was at The Medical City, I was a Patient Assistance Officer. We handle all sorts of complaints, may it be in person, via phone or e-mail.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, they taught us whats on the book, made us use different types of standardized tests and taught us how to administer, score and interpret those. Those are very useful in all fields.

How long did it take to find a job: Not too long, maybe a month or two after graduating.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: Employment opportunities are good, since you have 3 choices on what field you want to focus on. Whether it's in industrial, each company has an HR or any related position requiring psych grads, in education setting, schools need guidance counselors, and if you want the clinical setting, there are lots of mental institutions needing the help of fresh grads they could train to work for them.

About my college education: College is both fun and challenging. Fun - because you are now on your own, you meet new friends, you get to expand your social life, and about to build new memories of school days. Challenging - because you know whatever you sow here you will be able to reap when you're about to build your own career.
As a student, it is best not too just focus on your studies but also get involved in other extra curricular activities - this will allow you to broaden your experience and be enlightened on the different aspects of life (i.e. Social, political, religion, etc.) . It is therefore important to be a skillful multi-tasker so that you are able to manage the demands of a busy college life.

My current job: I am currently building a career in the field of research.

Am I using what I learned in college: Everything I learned in school I am able to apply in the different fields that I ventured into (i.e. HR and then Research) . Early in my career, I would even still consult my notes on Experimental Psychology, Psychometrics, Statistics, etc. For my job. It also pays to build a good relationship with your professors who can be your mentors for life -- like me, I am able to still consult them whenever I would need advice regarding work.

How long did it take to find a job: I was employed right after college (it pays to be educated in one of the best schools in the country -- but what's important is I was able to build a very good credential by doing well in school) .

Do I recommend studying Psychology: A career in Research is very challenging and rewarding - especially if you have the passion for never-ending learning. Since our responsibility involves partnership with different industries/organizations to help them on their research needs - every project is a new source for learning. It is also rewarding because you are instrumental in the growth of your client's business through your recommendations on new product ideas, new launches, marketing programs, etc.

About my college education: The curriculum is adequate & challenging in terms of theories & concepts. However, there may be a need to add practicum sites for the industrial and clinical settings, since the current practicum for students emphasize only on the educational and guidance & counseling settings.

Nonetheless, insight skills are highly needed to pass the course, since requirements for Psychology majors in the junior & senior years largely rely on reaction & reflection papers and on the student's ability to discern his/her client's situation during practicum. Self-discipline to study & do extra research is also greatly needed since quizzes are given almost everyday.

A good grasp of the English language is a necessity, as well, since the medium of teaching in the university is English.

My current job: At present, I'm a full time mother. But before I became a mom, I worked as a Psychologist in a non-government organization in the country, and as a Psychology Instructor in the same university.

Am I using what I learned in college: For my first job as a Psychologist, my theoretical background from SLU, was not so useful, since an actual experience in the clinical setting was needed for the job.
For my second job as a Psychology Instructor, my theoretical learning from the university was helpful. However, it was my clinical experience from my first job that was highly advantageous in the teaching field.

How long did it take to find a job: It only took me two months after graduation to land a job.

Do I recommend studying Psychology: I'd recommend BS Psychology in terms of employment since the graduate can be employed in many areas, since most, if not all fields are in need of a person with a background in Psychology.

Career fulfillment in this course depends on the matching of specialization that the graduate wants to focus on - i.e. A graduate who wants to be in the industrial field, but was employed as a guidance counselor would most likely be unsatisfied with his/her career.

Salaries of Psychology graduates in the country are varied, since it is dependent on the employer. Salaries in educational institutions are the highest, followed by the industrial setting. The lowest salary in my experience, comes from the clinical setting, except when the person holds a doctorate degree in Psychology and owns his/her private clinic.
