Why did I choose this school:
It was dubbed as the "best architecture school in the Philippines".
About University of Santo Tomas:
If you think the administration is 'caring' and is maintaining a 'competitive atmosphere', sorry to say but it is just a facade. They're kind to parents and applicants... But to students? No comment. The students are friendly, though. They have a great student council as well. A section has students ranging from 40-45. The competitiveness actually depends on the kinds of people you end up in a section with. The campus is safe.
If you're interested to see an iMac with a Windows OS, you should consider enrolling here. The computer labs have enough computers. All of the classrooms are air-conditioned (this may be the reason why blazers are included in our uniforms because you'd freeze without one). The college overall is okay. The facilities aren't really that great, but it does the job. The university library had a place full of drafting tables before but they took them out. Aside from that, the library has a lot of books, but I don't personally go there that much because of the distance from the college building to the library. There are a lot of places in UST to rest and socialize (gazebos, Lovers' Lane, carpark). The library is a good place to study actually, and there are also co-working spaces and good cafes near the campus.
Honestly speaking, if you are good, and you get a bad set of professors, you'll have a hard time. There are professors here who goes inside the classroom and flashes a PowerPoint Presentation and reads it aloud word-by-word and leaves. There are professors that don't teach, but bribe you with high grades so that they won't be fired by the university (there's an annual evaluation where you can evaluate chosen professors). There are also professors who have big egos, so instead of designing according to your principles, you design for them. There are bad professors in this college, but I can say that there are good ones here. There are professors that evidently have the fuel to teach and inspire students about architecture. You'll be lucky to get these kinds of professors. One thing I can say is, every time your schedule comes out and so does the set of professors that are assigned to you, you'll commonly hear students in the hallways asking their friends "Sino mga profs mo" "Swerte naman ang bait ng mga profs mo" "Malas naman napunta sa inyo si _____".
