Reviews of WMSU Zamboanga City graduates

Irene Issan
Studied BS Psychology
at Western Mindanao State University , Zamboanga City
Graduated: 2010

Why did I choose this school:
It was only Ateneo de Zamboanga and Universidad de Zamboanga which offered Accountancy in Zamboanga City and the tuition fees cost a lot. I understand my families situation. However, this did not hinder me from not going to college. Instead, I enrolled at Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), the dream school of most of the high school students in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Peninsula. Entrance test in WMSU was not that easy because I had heard a lot who failed in the test but I was lucky to get a high score.

About Western Mindanao State University:
Western Mindanao State University is one of the best universities for me. It is considered as the best University in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Peninsula as a whole. The school have two campuses. The main campus is located a few kilometer away from the city proper and for those who are taking agricultural and forestry courses, the campus is far from the city proper and near agricultural areas. The main campus where I had taken my degree is big where students can have a chatting sessions at the big open ground. There a also lot of Kiosk and study rooms aside from the library that we have.

The best part of being a student is having a place for break time and WMSU is the best because there are a lot of canteens scattered all over and just outside the campus ground. For students who came from the provinces, there are a lot of dormitories where they can stay or rent. There is also these lady and male guard who are strict but a friend to most of the students.

For the professors or instructors, all of them or I think most of them have taken their masters degree and graduated from a prestigious University. Considering my professors, they know what they teach and I learned that most of them are also studying and taking their post graduate courses aside from their masters.

The school has a big gymnasium. Aside from that, it is also located near the main grandstand of the City. The Department of Education of the Region (Region IX) is also near to it so the quality of education are ensured to be in a good standard. For the computers, when I had my computer subjects, we had our own computers, so I guess computers are enough. I just don't know for other students who took up computer courses because they belong to different departments and I think they have their own special computer laboratories located in their department or building. There are different buildings for different department. As a whole, I consider my University as a conducive place for College and it has proven in time since it is the oldest and first university in Zamboanga City. It still remains standing and campuses are expanding to cater the needed education for the students.

My current job:
I am currently working as a Secretary / HR in a recruitment firm. Actually my current work is a mixture of administrative, customer service, sales or marketing, and also being a Psychologist at time. Customers are the bread and butter of the business so giving them a proper approach which I learn in studying Psychology gives me the power to make them feel comfortable with our agency. We help our Filipino land a job here in Kuwait as a Household Service workers. The culture here in Kuwait is much different from that in the Philippines but went easy for me to get a long since I try to understand and meet the needs and expectations of our customers and also helping our kababayan while they are working here in Kuwait.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:
After I graduated, I became a Volunteer Probation Aide and then landed a job right away in a recruitment firm in the Philippines. Since the salary was small, I went to look for another job as an Executive Secretary for the Vice President for Research and Extension. And I did not stay long and had landed a job here in Kuwait. There were a lot of jobs that I applied and was offered but I always choose the first one that comes because I also believe in faith in the Almighty God that what he had given will be for the good.
