Jerrick Stephen A. Dagooc
Studied BS in Nursing
at Western Mindanao State University , Zamboanga City
Graduated: 2009

About Western Mindanao State University:
The professors are excellent as well as the Clinical instructors. Tuition fee is as low as 6 thousand pesos provided that you pass both the entrance exam and the college of nursing aptitude test. You will not need 100 thousand for your psychiatry experience since the school is affiliated with the psychiatric ward of one of the largest government hospitals in the city. All rooms are fully air conditioned, Skill laboratories are complete with all the sets of dummies and equipments to different procedures, you will be oriented with different tools / equipments used in operating rooms during different types of procedures.

About my college education:
Nursing is difficult at the same time challenging course. You will need to have strong will and dedication in order for you to succeed in the field. Many sleepless night making Nursing care plan for your patients, but in the end of the day its very rewarding when you feel that you've contributed to the benefit or for the well being of your patients. Taking up nursing is no joke, you should manage your time well, if your not up for the challenge then I guess you should not take this course. On contrary if you have the guts, if your optimistic and if your willing to make a difference then you better start this career. You need all the skills in order for you to succeed, be it logistical, interpersonal, even math skills in computing the IV fluids of your patients. That is why NURSING is unique.

My current job:
Im currently working as Nurse Medic / Emergency Medical Technician in the largest water treatment in the world. Qurayyah Sea Water Treatment, Saudi ARAMCO, KSA
✓  Perfectly related to BS in Nursing

Am I using what I learned in college:
Yes, since I'm originally ER staff nurse, I am now using my skills learned inside the ER in the pre-hospital set up, inside the ambulance responding to an emergency or disaster.

Do I recommend studying BS in Nursing:
First and foremost, you need to have experience first before you can apply abroad. But there are a lot of options in the nursing field, you can specialized in ER,OR, or etc.

For me I'm originally ER staff Nurse (need to be 200 bed capacity hospital or more) then I decided to train as EMT-Nurse, this is an ambulance staff nurse, responsible for medical treatment in pre- hospital setting. This is very in demand job especially in middle east country right now with salary rate of 40,000 pesos to 120,000 pesos, depending on your experience, skills and trainings.

The nursing career now is slowing in terms of employment opportunities, if you are pure Nurse with no specialization, then your salary level might be as low as 20,000 pesos abroad. Especially now that the Western Country stop recruiting expat nurses. There are many nurses now who are working as call center agents because they cant find a job. The competition is very strong and if your not making yourself ahead from others then your employment opportunities are very low.

I suggest you'll not stop educating yourself after you became a RN, continuous education and trainings makes you a better candidate than the others. I suggest that you specialized yourself after, observed the market abroad what field is in demand. Right now I could say EMT-NURSE or NURSE SAFETY OFFICER, with salary ranging from 40K - 150K pesos.

About Western Mindanao State University:
The experienced was so great because of the quality that I got from all the instructors and the school itself. I studied in the extension of the university in Pagadian City. All the teachers who handles all my subjects are veterans.
The students are competitive and most are came from poor and average family.
The facilities are not that so standard but still it can cater all the needs of the students.

I was not able to finish the course because I transferred to another college and shifted to my dream course. However, my experience here is the best.

About my college education:
As a student of this course, you need to strive hard to develop your interpersonal skills, socially oriented, hard working, interested to learn new things, you need to learn English well as this is one of the useful weapons needed after graduation and of course, above all, it takes perseverance no matter how hard it is.

at Western Mindanao State University , Zamboanga City
Graduated: 2007

About Western Mindanao State University:
Our school is a suitable place for learning. The professors are knowledgeable and experts. However, the facilities are incomplete.

About my college education:
For me, nursing course is interesting and enjoyable. However, it is difficult especially for someone who don't dream to become a Nurse. There's really no much skills needed. You just need to pass the Nursing Aptitude Test.

My current job:
Customer Service Consultant
Totally not related to BS in Nursing

Am I using what I learned in college:
Yes. I have learned practicals skills that I have used when I was practicing nursing and even in customer service field. Moreover, I am using English communication skills, mathematical learning and customer service.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:
Immediately after graduation.

Do I recommend studying BS in Nursing:
We are highly in need of competitive nurses. However, due to salary being not that high, most nurses apply in a customer service industry. Although I find it fulfilling especially if you have passion in helping people.
