About Western Mindanao State University:
The professors are excellent as well as the Clinical instructors. Tuition fee is as low as 6 thousand pesos provided that you pass both the entrance exam and the college of nursing aptitude test. You will not need 100 thousand for your psychiatry experience since the school is affiliated with the psychiatric ward of one of the largest government hospitals in the city. All rooms are fully air conditioned, Skill laboratories are complete with all the sets of dummies and equipments to different procedures, you will be oriented with different tools / equipments used in operating rooms during different types of procedures.
About my college education:
Nursing is difficult at the same time challenging course. You will need to have strong will and dedication in order for you to succeed in the field. Many sleepless night making Nursing care plan for your patients, but in the end of the day its very rewarding when you feel that you've contributed to the benefit or for the well being of your patients. Taking up nursing is no joke, you should manage your time well, if your not up for the challenge then I guess you should not take this course. On contrary if you have the guts, if your optimistic and if your willing to make a difference then you better start this career. You need all the skills in order for you to succeed, be it logistical, interpersonal, even math skills in computing the IV fluids of your patients. That is why NURSING is unique.
My current job:
Im currently working as Nurse Medic / Emergency Medical Technician in the largest water treatment in the world. Qurayyah Sea Water Treatment, Saudi ARAMCO, KSA
Am I using what I learned in college:
Yes, since I'm originally ER staff nurse, I am now using my skills learned inside the ER in the pre-hospital set up, inside the ambulance responding to an emergency or disaster.
Do I recommend studying BS in Nursing:
First and foremost, you need to have experience first before you can apply abroad. But there are a lot of options in the nursing field, you can specialized in ER,OR, or etc.
For me I'm originally ER staff Nurse (need to be 200 bed capacity hospital or more) then I decided to train as EMT-Nurse, this is an ambulance staff nurse, responsible for medical treatment in pre- hospital setting. This is very in demand job especially in middle east country right now with salary rate of 40,000 pesos to 120,000 pesos, depending on your experience, skills and trainings.
The nursing career now is slowing in terms of employment opportunities, if you are pure Nurse with no specialization, then your salary level might be as low as 20,000 pesos abroad. Especially now that the Western Country stop recruiting expat nurses. There are many nurses now who are working as call center agents because they cant find a job. The competition is very strong and if your not making yourself ahead from others then your employment opportunities are very low.
I suggest you'll not stop educating yourself after you became a RN, continuous education and trainings makes you a better candidate than the others. I suggest that you specialized yourself after, observed the market abroad what field is in demand. Right now I could say EMT-NURSE or NURSE SAFETY OFFICER, with salary ranging from 40K - 150K pesos.
