◈ Studied BS in Geology
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2013

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: Simply because it's UP.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: UP Diliman has become a home for me. Living now in the Central Business District (Makati), I can't help but miss UP. I miss inhaling the freshest air in the metro and looking at all the greenery inside the campus. From time to time, I go back and visit UP Diliman not just to meet with friends but also to have that relax feeling at "home". Being one of the largest campuses in the country, there is no question whether there are enough places for study, for socializing, or for rest.

The facilities, though not at their best to date, are on their way to improvement with the rise of new buildings and research facilities.

Our professors in geology are the coolest you can get. If you want drinking buddies, go ahead ask them. If you want free lunch, ask them, the chance is high that you can have it.

They say that as a state university, UP has a relatively high tuition fee, but still cheaper than other top universities and it offers options for the students to make the fees go lower like subsidies and scholarships.

list bulletMy current job: I am an exploration geologist for a petroleum company.
We consider ourselves the heart of an oil & gas exploration company. We are in the technical side of the search for oil by using our geological knowledge on the formation of oil and the interpretation of the subsurface geology and structures where there can be accumulations of oil/gas.

◈ Studied BS in Architecture
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2010

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The College of Architecture in UP Diliman is the best institution to study architecture. The UP environment is very conducive for creative thinking and the uniqueness of the UP culture keeps you grounded to reality.

The professors are highly-qualified for the task of educating the country's next generation of architects and are passionate in advancing the profession through education. Innovation is strongly encouraged while the past is constantly revisited for nuggets of wisdom. The professors leave lots of areas for students to approach the design problem in their unique ways - truly, they are advocates of academic freedom.

The facilities at the UP College of Architecture may not be the best there is in the country, but a lot of things are happening there right now. The administration is constantly pushing for upgrades in the facilities and the completion of its buildings. Now that I have mentioned it, the UP College of Architecture buildings speak for the College itself. While not perfect, the buildings (currently, there are two) are thoughtfully-designed, full of interest and of course, functional. They manifest the things being taught in the College and are like open books for the students to learn architecture through observation and first-hand experience.

list bulletMy current job: I am currently an Architect at a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) handling projects for potential implementation by the national government. This is my second job as I used to work as a junior project coordinator, and later junior architect after taking the licensure examinations, at a design and build firm.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: Even before graduation, I participated in a job fair held at the college and submitted my resume hoping that one of the companies present would hire me. It was barely a month after my graduation that I found myself hired under a design and build firm.

◈ Studied BS in Tourism
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2012

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The institute has a distinct home-like feel to it and you could almost smell the positive ambiance radiating from it.
The facilities are high end and could actually meet the standards of any high-end school you could name.
The mentors, as we preferably call them, are approachable and caring at times. They don't make you feel like you're at the bottom of the pit and all of them are very enthusiastic with what they're doing.

list bulletMy current job: I'm a flight steward at Air Asia.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: It took me three months to land a job because of the requirements and interviews.

◈ Studied BS in Interior Design
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2006

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: Being in UP Diliman was like being in your 2nd home. Everything from the great landscapes to the in depth population of efficient & qualified instructors & professors made me feel, "I love to learn more & take part more with the institution's activities." It was an overwhelming feeling to be part of it as well as it's history considering you were there for FOUR indescribable years. Every time I walk around the halls & ride their IKOT & TOKI jeepneys, I feel an overall sense of calmness despite the heavy pressures of maintaining healthy & liveable "grades".

list bulletMy current job: I am currently an Interior designer working in a consultant firm in Doha, Qatar. I conceptualize & design residential, office & even religious spaces.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: Since I was very persistent to share what I've learned & learn even more, I got myself a job a month after I graduated.

◈ Studied AB in Theater Arts
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2007

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: Open university atmosphere - mixed nationalities, personalities, sense of fashion, age, sexual orientation, and backgrounds. I had an opportunity to get along students from both public and private high schools and not only from locally but international level.

Top notch professors. It was really a privilege to be taught, handled and challenged by different types of UP professors. We were given the opportunity to enlist and choose the professor that we like for a certain subject requirement for the curriculum. From young professors who are very enthusiastic and high spirited to the professor emeritus and the not so young but technologically savvy and modern type of professors that we have which I can say gave me the variety of learning and ideas which made me who I am today.

list bulletMy current job: Full Time IT Sales Manager.
Part Time Freelance Model, Writer, Host and Actor.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: I used to be a working student and it is a privilege and an advantage to study and graduate to one of the best Universities in the Philippines. It is easier to be considered and get a job if you belong and graduated in UP. I got a job even I was still a student not only because I carry the UP name but I embody the characteristics of a versatile actor who can perform in any job or given task in any type of work and professional role.

◈ Studied AB in Journalism
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2008

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The professors are a mixed bag. You'll find all sorts of them in there. There are hard-core activists, feminists, single old ladies who like to dress in denim skirts and sneakers, wise old men, "terror" professors, heads of big media/PR groups, celebrities - they're all there at the College of Mass Communication. The one thing that they all have in common, though, is they know their stuff very well. They have different teaching strategies and attitudes towards their students - many of them are very friendly and I can think of only one professor who was actually snooty - but they all know what they're talking about.

The atmosphere I would say was okay. I'm not exactly a very friendly kind of person. I tend to shy away from crowds, and there are a lot of big and noisy crowds at the College of Mass Communication. That just seems to be what the college is known for. We like to talk and pass information. I don't like to do that, though. I like a lot of peace and quiet so I just tend to stay at the dorm or sit around at the Sunken Garden. That CMC was too noisy for me didn't mean I didn't belong. There were so many other places in UP for me to study or just relax and talk with friends one-on-one. What I like most about the place was the overall laid-back atmosphere. You can be whatever you want and do whatever you want in UP, of course without harming anyone else. There are no people there who look at you and stare you down for being jologs or for being nerdy. People will just accept you as you are. That's the best part of UP for me.

list bulletMy current job: I'm an Internet marketer and an e-book writer.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: I was already working as a managing editor for a Web content production company in Manila during my last semester of college. That was my first job related to my writing skills. In my second and third years, I also worked as an academic tutor for Filipino high school and elementary students.

◈ Studied AB in Political Science
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2009

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: A UP education may not guarantee you a high-paying job or so much fame, but that can be an option. One guarantee is that you will learn lessons that will help you for the rest of your life in the real world.

My professors in UP taught me the value of independence, resourcefulness, hard work and passion. These four values allowed me to be competitive not only against my peers here in the Philippines but also internationally. That IV-DV structure of cause and effect can be used in any situation you may face in life. Discussing problems of the past, present and future in my UP classroom was always fulfilling and enlightening; we learn not only from our professors but from each other as well. Academic freedom is not just an aspiration, it is a principle that we live by. Discrimination is very low since people around you know that however strange you may seem, you are still a person that somebody else can appreciate, and maybe even love. Also, a UP education will teach you to love and honor your country in so many ways that you will see fit.

UP may still lack much when it comes to the high-tech facilities that private schools may have, but it is slowly but surely catching up. I believe though that tangible facilities do not matter much to the avid learner as the facility of his own mind. Best of all, those sturdy acacia trees along the academic oval provide for the best classrooms in the University - you can learn just from walking around the oval with your friends, discussing whatever you want as if it's the most natural thing in the world.

◈ Studied BS in Civil Engineering
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2005

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: Prestige, low tuition and I was happy that I got accepted to one of the most difficult universities and courses to get into.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The school is spacious. You could get yourself lost in there if you're not careful.
It is peaceful. You can express yourself whichever way you want.

Professors were somewhat of an experience too. You get lucky with some and they get to be your friends even after you graduate but you also get others that you don't want to think about in the long haul.

list bulletMy current job: I now work for an international engineering consultancy firm.
I work as a drainage/civil engineer and some hydrology type of work.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: About 2 years I suppose
First I had to pass my board exams then I went to rest first before looking for a job.

◈ Studied BSEd in English
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2009

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: With great pride and honor, I am thankful that I was able to study and finish my degree in UP. Being true to its label as the country's premier state university, the entire UP campus is a learning environment on its own. UP might be wanting in some state-of-the-art facilities but it is greatly compensated by what UP has. You can find the best professors in the country in UP. I am very thankful that I was taught by some of them.
Academic freedom is greatly exercised in UP-- you can discuss anything under the sun with your professors, classmates, and peers. You can engage in discussions about the most mundane of things to the most complicated issues and topics. More than knowledge derived from books, UP taught me greater things that are found outside the four corners of the classroom. I learned to be aware, to be pragmatic, and to be radical. At the same time, UP trained me to respect rules, to fall in line, and to keep the cool no matter how chaotic situations might be.
UP also disillusioned me in a lot of ways. When I entered UP, I thought I was so bright because I passed the UPCAT-- but after one semester, I tended to doubt it. I got some low marks; I had classmates who have extraordinary intelligence; I got rejected papers; and, I got to feel "average". But, UP also taught me not to wallow in self-pity, neither to compete with my classmates, but to always go the extra mile and that my greatest competition is myself. So, I strove harder and go beyond my limits. I was humbled by my experiences in UP and I was inspired to not settle with an "okay" but always aim for excellence.
Finally, I can say, that I spent some of the best years in my life in UP; and I owe a lot from UP the person that I am today.

list bulletMy current job: I am currently working as a college instructor.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: I am grateful because I landed a teaching job soon after I graduated. I graduated in April 2009, then I started working in June 2009.

◈ Studied Bachelor of Fine Arts
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 1999

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: Studying in a public university will be a little shocking to students who come from private schools. You might not get everything you want or request for right away. The professors will not always be there to cater to your needs. And the facilities are often old or lacking. But it will teach you to be more creative in meeting requirements. The professors will not baby you but will challenge your ideas. I was taught to question authority but also to be open to new ideas about religion, government and being a Filipino.

◈ Studied BS in Metallurgical Engineering
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2012

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: Proximity to home. Only two universities offered this course, the other being MSU in Mindanao. In addition to that, engineering graduates of UP Diliman could have a special discount in the application of Australian Visa. Australia's private contributor to it's economy is also mining thus there are also good opportunities if one chose to work there.

And in UP, you can choose what minor/general education (we call them GE) you can get. If you are an engineering student, you can take subjects in theater, writing, Japanese language subjects, etc. As long as you complete the required units.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: For the ambiance, it was pretty laid back studying there. Because the university promotes "freedom", there's a mix of different cultures yet everyone eventually has respect for each. One should love walking to explore every part of the university (food exploration is a must!) and sometimes a bit faster than riding jeep to next class in a different building. It's quite helpful to read first UP fun facts available online. In the morning or afternoon, the academic oval is full of joggers. If you are lucky, you might run into celebrities during their training.

The professors/instructors have different ways of teaching. For the general subjects, I once had a professor who is a director in a big media corporation. We made films in class and she constructively critique our works. No exams. Others would require field trips. One awesome PE subject - scuba diving. The instructor would carefully train each one and none failed the subject. In general, I could say that I did not have a dull professor. They are quirky in ways. The professors/instructors in the department are all very supportive in the goals of their students. They are strict and frank, of course, to open one's mind in what should be done to graduate. Ah, from what I remember, you are to given exams but you cannot find the right solution since in every problem, there could be ways in solving it or making a process design. I would say that their greatest contribution was the skills not only to pass the board exam but also the ones we would need as a professional metallurgical engineer.

Facilities:
Some buildings have air-conditioned rooms, more often they don't. Main transportation: jeepneys. Equipment are quite a few compared to other universities yet the ones needed in the undergraduate study are readily available in the laboratory. Equipment are surely reliable since companies ask the department to analyze some samples. The National Institute of Physics have advanced equipment available for use at a certain price and UP students have a discount.

Each college has it's own library and the college of engineering has two. One houses books in the field of EE, ECE, and ComSci while the other have the rest of the engineering courses. A University Library is also easy to find and where the computer facilities can be found (well most students go to Shopping Center though). Explore libraries of other colleges. You might have your own favorite place.

The university is so big that resting and socializing is not a problem. Being a member of an organization also has a benefit of having an exclusive "tambayan".

list bulletMy current job: Currently I am a consultant/metallurgical engineer in a cement manufacturing company. I assist my supervisor in analyzing core drills to know the composition and characteristics of the ore in an area to be mined.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: It took me only a month or less to find a job.

◈ Studied Bachelor of Library and Information Science
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2012

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: Being a student in any university is hard-work. Much more so, in the University of the Philippines. Imagine, the moment you enter the university you're automatically branded as (isa sa mga) "Iskolar ng Bayan". Pressure! However, the pressure is all in your head and every moment spent in UP is definitely worth it! Sure, there are some people who want to keep challenging themselves while there are those who excel without putting much effort. Whichever persona you perceive to be, everyone is welcome here! Everyone deserves to be part of our community and has a contribution in every cause.

UP does not offer first-class amenities like airconditioned classrooms and high-class canteens or food joints. Entering this particular university advises you to keep your life simple, find joy in the little things and explore the world around you. Remember, expect nothing and you will never be disappointed.

list bulletMy current job: I am currently a licensed librarian working in the National Library of the Philippines under the Office of the Director

◈ Studied BS in Chemical Engineering
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2009

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: University of the Philippines is such an "elite" school. Not everyone who wishes to enter are blessed enough to be accepted. I am very happy to have been qualified to enter UP, with a degree program such as BS ChE, a quota course. UP is very famous for the high quality standard of education that it can provide it's students. Anyone with a sane mind, dream of being a UP student, some just won't admit it! :) What's not to like about UP? It's the best!

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: UP has a very nice ambiance that is very helpful for your learning process. In addition, the professors were uniquely qualified to teach their assigned subjects. They were competent and were also distinguished individuals that contributed major breakthroughs in their respective fields. They were very inspiring. You become more thirsty for knowledge once you become part of their classes.

◈ Studied BS in Food Technology
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 1989

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The Aniversity of the Philippines in Diliman, as with any other competent college in the country, is full of dynamic, dedicated people, all wanting to be part not only of the intellectual clique of the academe, but the nation as a whole- and in their own little way, they are.

The professors are a bunch of characters who, having mustered and mastered their teaching craft, have but one thing in common: they do not spoon-feed your education, but instead light you up from within so you will want to educate yourself.
Each one a character in his/her own right, each one believing only in god and himself/herself, the prof defined the atmosphere of each class. There are stiff, by-the-book profs, and there will always be the "easy smiling" love-you-if-you-love me prof who will give you a failing grade if you fail to answer questions from a reading assignment you were given last meeting.

Although facilities ranged from better to worse, UP Diliman gave me that "we-have-just-enough-chairs and tables-this-year" feeling that all that mattered was having my books and notebooks, as well as a pen that had enough ink to write all day, and a thorough understanding of what I had read all night, and that saw me through.

list bulletMy current job: I am a businessman and an entrepreneur. After graduation I opted to start my own business from scratch because I believe creating jobs is far more important than looking for one.
I am a single father with 6 kids and I am into digital photography and t-shirt printing, courses that have no connection with my college course. But I cook for my kids...

◈ Studied BEEd in Early Childhood Education
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2012

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: UP professors are not all good. Don't be fooled by the image of the UP. Every institution has its downfalls. Most UP professors are smart, or maybe all of them are smart, but not all of them can teach well. That's what Educ students always notice. Some profs know their content well, but they can't impart the knowledge they have. Some just lecture to rant or brag about their accomplishments, glad to have an audience who won't stand up to them. Some just plainly do it because they're tenured and they don't care. But, there are others that are pure legends. There are profs that will change your life, revise your philosophies, and inspire you to be the gem that you are meant to be. Don't be afraid to go to a class alone because you want to listen to that badass teacher. Be bold and enlist in their class because you won't experience their classroom and brilliance elsewhere.

UP is a state university so if you're familiar with public facilities, then you wouldn't expect much from UP's facilities - especially the comfort rooms. Don't expect air conditioned rooms and availability of LCD projectors. Expect the worst so you won't get disappointed. Don't be choosy because UP is not the place to be all girly-girl.

You will live the vibrancy and life UP has so much of. You will never get bored with the tremendous amount of organizations and events all over the campus. There is always, always, always something happening in the republic of Diliman. Plus, the food stalls! Satisfy your cravings any time of the day :)

◈ Studied AB in Art Studies major in Interdisciplinary
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2000

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: In up diliman, everyone is so relaxed but focused, so fun but serious, sometimes in a weird way. All the while you think you have no competition inside the classroom, but no. A grade conscious person like me never stops to discover new things, new learnings. We can smoke or eat or drink coffee while having class but we have to be ready to answer our prof's questions. I mean, you also have to have all the correct answers in your mouth, not literally, for you to pass.

With regards to our profs, they are all friendly but very very sharp. Very very intelligent. But very very strict... Not all the time. Sometimes they ask if we studied for the exam and we answered no. The prof just put out a big plastic bag full of oranges and said, "okay, if that's the case, let's just eat oranges!" Fun right? But when you think of it, it's not just about eating oranges. It's about you forgetting your responsibility to study.

◈ Studied BS in Metallurgical Engineering
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2009

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: I'm from Davao City, and UP Diliman is extremely far from my place. I took the challenge of studying far as I know this university can really mold me the way I needed to be. It's a state university wherein tuition fees are really applicable for poor to average income families, and I'm included on those. I also heard that there are numerous scholarship offers for outstanding students in that university and I was planning to apply so that I can help my father and mother lessen their financial burden just to send us to school. The school itself is also popular because of it's historical contribution to the country, that as well was a big factor of selecting this school. Almost every prominent politician is a product of this university and I was thinking probably I can be one of them as well.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: University of the Philippines Diliman is an eden garden in the middle of the harsh environment offered by NCR universities. Unlike any other school, luscious green trees dominate the area and affordable "pika pika" and street foods are everywhere to sustain your budget. I remember during my "hangman" days (that's 1-2 days before my father sent me an allowance and my money is not enough for a complete meal), my usual lunch was monay (a special bread) with cheese, which only costs me PhP10. Usually UP students walk a long way from classes to classes. Probably 3-4 kilometers is relatively near already as we are very used to it. The "green" environment offered by this school makes it also conjunctive for a nature hike. This also saves money not to ride UP Jeepney "IKOT" or "TOKI". Whenever I fail an exam, I walk a long way to relieve my stress, and I tell you.. It's really effective.

Here in UP, different kinds of professors can be encountered. One, professors who are very intelligent and popular because their intelligence causes them not to be a good educator. Second, seasoned professors that you can only meet twice during the whole duration. Third are those very passionate with the country that everything they say pertains to being a leftist. Overall professors vary as students clothes vary in this university.

Facility wise, UP is a state of the art school in the whole country. I remember I have used Scanning electron microscope (SEM) for our thesis and that was really something unusual. It was one of a kind experience. UP MMM has also a new pilot plant to cater laboratory needs of metallurgical Engineering students.

◈ Studied AB in Broadcast Communication
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2013

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: First and foremost, the tuition is really cheap. Add to the fact that my sister also went to the same college, and it was almost a no-brainer. Before I even knew where exactly UP was, I was already informed of the quality of it's education as seen through my sister.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The best thing about UP is that it allows everyone to believe in whatever the students would want to believe in. I have met all sorts of people here - from the most conservative to the most liberal, from the "most normal" to the "weirdest." It's always an experience to get to know classmates because you'll never know just how they'll surprise you - you just know that they will. I think it adds up to the college experience because aside from the lessons I learned from the subjects I took, I also earned a lot of lessons from the people I interacted with.

The professors are also part of this unique learning experience. Academic freedom is highly valued here in UP, so the instructors are given free range on what to teach and how to teach courses. Every professor is also a different experience - from former politicians to National Artists to even rockstars.

But make no mistake about it - UP is also home to not-so-awesome teachers. These can range from those that do nothing but present slides every meeting to those that do not even meet the class for extended periods of time. However, believe it or not, it helped me learn one of the most valuable skills in life that I know: dealing with difficult people.

As much as it is difficult to deal with people, it's also difficult to work with low quality facilities. Because UP is a state university, it has been very difficult to look for funds to upgrade the equipment in the campus. Especially in the College of Mass Communication, where every media student should be adapting to the technological advancements in the industry, it becomes rather futile for us to learn "old school" techniques based on facilities that are no longer used by the big media outlets.

Luckily for us, we get donations from our alumni every now and then. And sometimes, even the administration or the government gives the college some well-deserved equipment. But when these do not happen, the students have no choice but to be resourceful in making do with what they have. And I guess, that also adds up to the life skills that UP has taught me.

list bulletMy current job: I am currently a full time law student, but before I enrolled, I worked as a Social Media Producer for an online news website.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: Actually, I already had a job even before I graduated. The company where I had my internship offered me my first job two months before college graduation.

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: This was my dream school, as a matter of fact. So before I took the UPCAT, I really prepared for it. I liked this school because of it's prestige and because of the opportunities you can get inside and outside the campus. I also considered the environment and the people in it in choosing this university.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The atmosphere was really challenging. Almost all of my classmates back then were valedictorians and salutatorians of their own schools. However, the atmosphere also gave me a true picture of what's really happening in the Philippines (political and societal). The atmosphere in UP is really an eye-opener. Moreover, the atmosphere here also gave me a sense of freedom. As you know, there's this called academic freedom in this university. You can wear anything, you can eat anything, you can do anything, etc. As long as you pass your subjects and at least finish your degree within the MRR (MRR is the maximum stay in the campus, e.g. For a four-year course, you can only stay for six years at a maximum)

The professors were also great. Most of them have doctorate degrees. You can feel high set of standards with them. They can give you an 'outside-of-the-box' perspective of things. I can remember how amazed I was before while taking their lectures.

For the facilities, some would say that facilities in UP are not that good. They may be right, and maybe not. It actually depends on what college you're in. For UP school of economics, the facilities were all good. All of the classrooms have air-conditioners, the comfort rooms are clean all the time, we also have our own cafeteria (where food is relatively costly), we even have a garden, parking, backyard, etc.

All in all, studying in UP is a combination of academic excellence and social awareness.

list bulletMy current job: I am in the marketing field. I engage in product management. I attend seminars as well and do researches. I do product branding, positioning, etc. The job requires a lot of people skills and research skills. I enjoy my job now.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: It took me less than two weeks after I start sending applications.

◈ Studied BS in Statistics

◈ Graduated 2009

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: I’ve always wanted to study in UP, specifically UP Diliman. So when I’ve learned the UPCAT results are out and I passed, I was more than determined to make it the best years of my life so far. I never even doubted it for a second.

I took the BS Statistics in 2005-2009, I think a lot had improved in terms of facilities and physical atmosphere since then. In my time, all classrooms are airconditioned, the kind of airconditioning that chills you up your spine (for that I always bring a jacket) but leaves a stale feeling/smell.

The professors are not at all lenient; they would drive you to learn. Most of the professors always keep their classes challenging, ending the day with an assignment, or at the very least something to think about. The classroom atmosphere is relaxed; you don’t have to stand while participating in the discussion. What’s most important is the exchange of ideas, formalities is not really necessary.

The UP atmosphere, the term “Iskolar ng Bayan” is instilled in every student from the very start. And with that, a lot of responsibilities align to a UP student, one of which is to at least try to make a difference for the nation. And the UP atmosphere brings about that sense of responsibility. The people around, the places all boil into that tag, “you are here because of the people, at one point, you have to give back”.

list bulletMy current job: I work as an Actuarial Analyst in an insurance company. It is one of the many career opportunities as a statistician while also applicable for graduates of mathematics.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: I graduated April 26, 2009 and started work May 20 of that year, so less than a month.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The professors were great, they blend with the students as if they are students themselves. And the people are really accommodating. Adapting to the college life was difficult at first but it gets easier as you meet other students. The university also invests in laboratory equipment and facilities so rest assured that they are of the top quality.

list bulletMy current job: Since I am yet to have a professional job, I have been accepted to internships and part-time jobs easily and get calls from companies form time-to-time even if I am still a graduating student.

◈ Studied BS in Applied Physics
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2007

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: It is the country's premiere university and is the best choice for this course. The other options were not that inviting and/or way above our means (AMA, DLSU, Ateneo were the only other schools offering the same course at the time).

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: Atmosphere: Diliman is the flagship campus of UP. It is where most of the brightest minds and the most outspoken youth in the country converge. There's no shortage of ooohs and ahhhs to be had. Culture shock is expected. This is where your aura of superiority gets tested and, more often than not, gets shattered. You're suddenly not the genius that you always thought you were.

Professors: They range from the mad brilliant to the comically insane. They were all real people outside the classroom though, and that's what made them special.

list bulletMy current job: Editorial Analyst. I basically read other people's researches, try to understand whatever they're saying, then classify and index it so other people interested in their research will be able to find it.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: I've been in this job since before I graduated.

list bulletWhy did I choose this school: Quality of education.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: UP Diliman is a very lively campus. The population is diverse in many aspects, including ethnicity, gender, religion, and social bracket. The professor pool of UP is as diverse as it's students; in one class you might be taught by a typical professor in his early 50s quoting journal authors and speaking impeccable English, while in the next you may be faced with an unkempt professor in his 20s conducting classes outside the classroom, speaking straight, rustic Tagalog. Either way, whether you have a noble desire to learn, or want to get a passing grade, there will almost always be a professor to suit your wants.

There are many nice places to hang out in the campus, so any time of the day (or night) you can find students gathered in bunches throughout the campus. There's a lot of greenery in UP, so in the hot summer days you can even find outsiders hanging out with their kids and pets. While the outdoors in UP is quite popular, the same can't be said about the facilities. Being a government school, many of the buildings currently being used are poorly kept. However, major improvements are being done to change this image of the national university, a good example of which is the recent construction of the Diliman Science Complex, currently housing many of the science and engineering courses handled by the university.

list bulletMy current job: I used to be an IT consultant for SAP. Right now I'm doing SAP governance for a non-IT company.

list bulletHow long did it take to find a job: Had a few job offers a month before graduation.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The University of the Philippines may not be the richest school on earth or even in the Philippines but I have never wanted to study in any other university in the Philippines my whole life. I was the third happiest person on earth when I knew I passed, first and second were may mom and dad.

The University may be old and suffering from the deterioration of its facade and all but it is home to great minds, to great professors who offered themselves to the country to teach us and train us to become better people. It is not that there are no good professors in other universities because I believe there are. We are being taught by heroes in every way that word means. Being surrounded by excellent professors and competitive classmates, you can never go wrong with UP, you will always be pushed to your limits, letting you make things you never imagined of doing an atmosphere that will always make you innovate and be creative without losing yourself in the process.

Our classrooms may be old and we may not have air-conditioning, but who needs pampering when our tax payers are working hard to let us go through college. And we do not go to school to keep ourselves cool, we can do that in malls it is our drive to learn that must take us to schools. In all fairness to the University, they are making efforts to make facilities in the campus better and competitive according to global standards.

list bulletMy current job: I am not yet working and is still waiting for graduation by April.

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: UP is so diverse. It has every sort of personality. You can have a professor who is very keen on details and have another who couldn't care less. The same goes for your classmates, orgmates, etc. This is what makes UP so fun, interesting, and challenging. You get to meet every type of person, from a simple laid back provincial girl, to a very rich party girl, from a rockstar, to a rap artist, from an aktibista to an elitista. And because of this, you learn how to adapt to/accept people, just like in the real world. It opens your horizon. As for the facilities, they're not world class. But they're improving.

◈ Studied AB in Journalism
◈ At UP Diliman
◈ Graduated 2003

list bulletAbout UP Diliman: The UP College of Mass Communication where I took BA Journalism is a small building with limited facilities but very liberal atmosphere. Students are free to discuss anything in the lobby and hallways of the college building. The meagerness of our facilities and supplies encouraged us to be resourceful and innovative with our presentations, projects and reports. The professors are stern when it comes to the rules and standards of the school but they also respect everyone's opinions and creativity.

list bulletMy current job: As soon as I graduated, I was able to land a job at an International School as writer for the institution's PR and Marketing office. After two years, I moved on to an IT company as web content writer and later on, editor. Currently, due to personal reasons, I am working as free-lance researcher and writer. I also manage an online shop.
