A. New Incoming Freshmen
1. A new incoming freshman must qualify for admission into U.P. Diliman thru the U.P. College Admission Test (UPCAT) and must make it to the B.S. Mathematics cut-off in Math. 2. Admission into the program, in any case, shall be dependent on the availability of slots in the program and the current resources of the department.
B. Undergraduate Transfer Student
1. All applicants for transfer to the B.S. Mathematics program shall be accepted and processed only for the first semester of each academic year through the Office of the College Secretary, College of Science.
2. Course description:
Individuals interested in taking up a Masters degree in Geology in NIGS must possess a four- or five-year Bachelor of Science in Geology. Graduates of other undergraduate courses other than BS Geology may be accepted into the program and will be required to enroll and pass selected undergraduate courses• listed in the BS Geology curriculum prior to taking up graduate courses. Acceptance of applicants into the program is decided upon by the Graduate Committee of NIGS. M.S. Students who are accepted into the program must satisfy 24 units of coursework along with a graduate seminar course. These 24 units are divided into two categories: core subjects and electives. The core subjects are Graduate Seminar, Igneous Petrology, Sedimentary Petrology, and Advanced Field Geology. Electives to be taken are decided by both the student and the program adviser and must be related to the student’s specialization in Geology. Aside from geology graduate courses, the student may take courses in engineering, chemistry, physics, environmental science, geography, and marine science to name a few. The graduate student is expected to study other fields and topics in geology that are relevant to their specialization. The scholastic rule of the College of Science requires a semestral GWA of 2.0 for a Masters student to stay in the program. A full time graduate student may finish the coursework in two years. A Masters’ thesis of 6 units must be accomplished to earn the M.S. Degree. Under the new Geology Law as prescribed by the President of the Philippines and enforced by the Professional Regulatory Commission, graduates of Master of Science in Geology may take the Geology licensure examination even without an undergraduate degree in Geology. • Elementary geology, petrology, structural geology, and optical mineralogy.

Course description:
The Professional Masters in Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management (PM-TMEM) is designed for professionals who wish to pursue careers in government, civil service organization, and private sector involving the management and governance of tropical marine ecosystems. It focuses on the application of the sciences for the development of professional skills and practical analyses of practitioners. This program follows a modular, sequential approach that can be completed in 1.5 years. A distinctive element of the PM-TMEM program is it's integrative and trans-disciplinary approach within and across the courses, with lectures and field components handled by various interdisciplinary teams of faculty, including local and international experts. The program culminates with the completion of an independent special project that addressed gaps in the management and governance of tropical marine ecosystems on within the students' areas of responsibility.

Admission Requirements•
A. A graduate of one of the following:
1. M.S. Degree in the Biological Sciences or related fields from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least 24 units of graduate courses with a thesis requirement (proof of thesis required), or
2. MS degree in other fields not covered in I.A.1from a recognized institution of higher learning with research track record, or
3. M.D. Or D.V.M. From a recognized institution of higher learning with research track record.
B. Acceptance by a faculty member of the Institute of Biology as a prospective dissertation advisee. The acceptance will be based on a submitted research proposal that have been consulted with and approved by the faculty who will act as the prospective Dissertation Adviser.
C. GWA of 1.75 or better in the M.S., M.D., or D.V.M. Program.
D. At least one article, published within the last five (5) years, in a highly reputable journal (e.g., Scopus- or Thomson Reuters indexed) in which the applicant is the primary author.
E. Passing an English Proficiency Test as per University Policy for foreign applicants whose medium of instruction in the previous degree programs is not English. Note: Prescribed tests are TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
F. Passing a placement examination to be administered by the Graduate Committee of the Institute of Biology. The placement examination is as follows:
1. For those who meet the requirements of I.A.1., oral presentation and acceptance of a research proposal to be evaluated by at least one member from each of the following areas: Cell Biology, Ecology and Taxonomy, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, and Physiology.
2. For those who meet the requirements of I.A.2. And I.A.3., the placement examination will be in two parts: 2.1. The comprehensive essay-type written examination will be based on the specialization that the student intends to take.• • 2.2. An oral presentation and acceptance of the research proposal submitted by the applicant. • Those who are already enrolled in the regular Ph.D. Biology (Option 1) program may shift to Option 3 provided they satisfy all admission requirements. • • If an applicant fails, he/she may re-apply.
G. Passing the interview process of the Graduate Committee of the Institute of Biology.

Course description:

Admission requirements:
1. Admission into the Ph.D. (Environmental Science) Program in the College shall require
(1) a B.S. Or M.S. (Environmental Science) degree or their equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning,
(2) a high degree of intellectual capacity and aptitude for advanced study and research in Environmental Science, and

2. Course description:
The Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics is a graduate program which provides students with advanced background in statistics to enable them to participate in the development of statistical methods. Emphasis is placed on training in research. Seminar and reading courses are incorporated into the PhD program, besides lecture courses, in order to meet the individual requirements of the student's program of research.
Admission requirements:
1. Application for admissions must be filed with the Director of Graduate Studies at lest one month before the start of the registration period of the proposed term of entrance.
2. Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent degree or title from any recognized institution of higher learning and who satisfy the University rules on admission to a graduate program may be admitted to the Ph.D. Program subject to the following conditions:
An applicant with a bachelor's or master's degree other than in statistics may be required to take additional mathematics and statistics courses before admission to the Ph.D. Program.
Additional requirements shall be determined by the Graduate Committee of the School.
A student must obtain a grade of 2.0 or better in the qualifying examination based on the core courses of the MS (Statistics) program of the Center before being allowed to continue in the doctoral program.
