Why did I choose this school:
I came from the rural area. Well, in the mountainous area to be specific as I only come from a very humble, hardworking family. So when I arrived in the big urbanized area (davao city), UM was the most suitable university for me because the tuition fees were manageable, while the quality of education was also good. It was important to me that I enroll in a school where my family won’t have to sell our land just so I can obtain a college education. UM was really for people like me in that aspect. And even so, it was the place where many board top-notchers have come from so just imagining that I could study there was already exciting for me. I really looked forward to be surrounded by intelligent students thinking that I’d be influenced by them.
About University of Mindanao:
A lot of the professors became my friends, or almost everyone else’s friends. They always gave a youthful, carefree feeling which helped us endure through the difficult times. However, even if they were so amiable and outgoing, they never allowed that “ friendship” to come between studies and grades. So even if you can pull off jokes with the schools’ professors, you can’t expect them to let you “pass” that easily. For that, I really had great respect for them.
School’s facilities were also okay. Classrooms were sufficient with just the right number of students per class. In terms of cleanliness, sanitation and order I can say the school managed to keep the place conducive for learning even if it was a big campus to maintain. I especially admire the school’s concern towards nature. I myself am a nature lover so it was good to see that through the school’s initiative, students were trained to be disciplined and aware of their actions towards their environment.
My current job:
Currently I am an administrative assistant in a private company. It’s not a very big and profitable one, but there’s still a lot of things to do for business.
Usually I handle the transactions concerning money coming in and out of the company, some accounting - like monitoring cash flows and minor auditing, scheduling appointments for my boss, attending to clients and visitors and basically almost everything. It’s both amazing and confusing how I’ve come this far knowing that I could handle all these.
How long did it take to find a job:
While I was still in college, I was already working. I was a working student. From then on, I always had a job and from that moment on, I never became unemployed because I’d just be asked to move from one department, or office to another. I guess I was really lucky.
