Scholarships at SMC Iligan City

Scholarship and financial assistance to poor but deserving and qualified undergraduate students. The funds, which mostly come from the school general budget, are supplemented from agencies (Governmental and Non-Governmental) and companies that support the program.

1. Entrance Scholarship (Academic Scholar). Scholarships are given to valedictorians and salutatorians of all secondary schools recognized (accredited) by the DepEd.

Valedictorian receives a full discount on tuition while salutatorian receives a fifty percent (50 %) discount.

They should however, pass the admission test and interview, belonged to a batch of more than one hundred (100) graduates and must submit a certification from the principal. They have to maintain a GPA of 2.0 with no failing mark in any subjects for the entire stay in SMC.

Retention of Scholarship:

• Renewal every semester;

• Must have twenty-four (24) units as minimum load;

• Maintains a GPA of 1.75 and a grade not lower than 2.0;

• Maintains satisfactory conduct during the semester;

• Must involve himself / herself in clubs / organizations as leader or facilitator.

2. Dean's Honors List Scholarship. Tuition fee discounts will be availed of by the Dean's Honors Listers based on availability of funds.

This scholarship program has objectives such as:

• To encourage more students to strive for excellence;

• To develop a well-rounded individual who will not only excel academically but who also has leadership and community involvement.

Criteria: For a student to avail of the partial scholarship, he/she must:

• Be among the Dean's List and included in the top twenty (20);

• Have submitted an application letter addressed to the President through the Guidance Center; recommendation letters/certification of leadership or active involvement in program and club activities from the college dean or Club Moderators; (Note: Community involvement can be included);

• Have no record of offenses;

• Agree to undertake the stipulated activity required by the school;

• Must have a minimum load of twenty-four (24) units.

A student will forfeit the partial scholarship if:

• He/she cannot maintain being in the Dean's List;

• He/she is already enjoying a scholarship (MIS, NI, PESFA, etc.);

• He/she commits offenses during the semester;

• He/she cannot comply with the required activities;

3. Mother Ignacia Scholarship (MIS). A scholarship that assists the poor but deserving students to finish their course and become professionals, helps them grow and develop as Christian members and leaders while serving the needs of the RVM Religious and Academic communities.

Requirements for Applicants

• Application letter (addressed to the School President/ Scholarship Coordinator)

• Certificate of Good Moral Character

• Barangay Clearance

• Police Clearance

• Drug Test Result

• BIR Income Tax Return of Parents

• Academic requirements as prescribed by the College department

• Four (4) pieces 2x2 recent I.D pictures

• Report card

• Birth Certificate

• Interview

Academic Policies:

• MIS are allowed to take a maximum load of 18 to 24 units per semester depending upon academic and work performance and evaluation, and three (3) to six (6) units during summer;

• A 4-year course is only allowed except Nursing and Computer / IT courses;

• Any MIS can be subject for dismissal if violated the rules and regulations set by the school.

4. STUDENT ASSISTANCE. A grant/scholarship that assist the poor but deserving students to finish their course and become professionals, help them grow and develop as Christian members and leaders while serving the needs of the academic communities.

• Available only for BS Criminology, AB, BSBA, BSED/BEED, BSCS;

• Should maintain an average grade of 2.5 with no failing grades;

• Hours to be rendered may vary from one office to another office.
