SCHOLARSHIPS AT SJIT BUTUAN CITY:

I. LCS Full Scholarship Program Guidelines

This is full scholarship program was launched last academic year 2006-2007. Every academic year, SJIT offers five (5) slots for LCS Scholarships program.

1. The scholarship is open to all high school graduates both public and private.

2. Students who apply for scholarships should have a grade of 90% in English, Math, and Science subjects in High school.

3. Applicants should pass the CSAT exam to be conducted at SJIT.

4. The student can only choose board course in Education.

5. Upon acceptance to the program, the students enjoy free tuition and matriculation fees until senior year.

6. Once a scholar, he/she maintain an average grade of 1.3 (92%) every semester.

7. He/She should engage in research and community extension services of the school.

8. He/ She obey the rules and regulations of the school and respect authorities of the school.

9. He/ She expected to cooperate with school activities, curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular to develop strong sense of social responsibility.

10. He/She is enjoined to participate any academic organization to improve himself.

11. After graduation, the scholar is required to take the board review and to pass the board examination.

II. SJIT In-House Scholarships

1. Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to any student who satisfies the required weighted general average rating in all his previous academic semesters. This scholarship is of two types; namely, Full Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Partial Academic Excellence Scholarship.

(a) Full Academic Excellence Scholarship

Any student who obtains a general weighted average equivalent of at least 1.3 or ninety-two percent (92%) and has no grade lower than 1.5 or ninety (90%) in any of his subjects during his previous academic semesters shall enjoy a free tuition payment with a maximum of 21 units only in full during the succeeding semester when he obtained the academic rating.

(b) Partial Academic Excellence Scholarship

Any student who obtains a general weighted average equivalent of at least 1.5 or ninety percent (90%) and has no grade lower than 1.7 or eighty-eight percent (88%) in any of his subjects during his previous academic semesters shall enjoy a fifty percent (50%) free tuition payment in the succeeding semester when he obtained the academic rating.

For any of these scholarships to take effect in the following semester, the aspiring student must have a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units. The exceeding number of units shall then be paid by the student.

(c) High School Honors Scholarships

- Valedictorians

Full tuition fee scholarship (100%) is given to all Valedictorians who belong to graduating classes with a minimum of 45 students and more, either from public and private schools.

However, only twenty-one (21) units shall be allowed for the full tuition fee scholarship. The exceeding units must be paid by the student.

- Salutatorians

75% tuition fee scholarship is given to all Salutatorians, from either public or private schools, which belong to graduating classes with a minimum of 45 students and more.

However, only twenty-one (21) units shall be allowed for the full tuition fee scholarship. The exceeding units must be paid by the student.

- First Honorable Mention

Half (50%) free tuition fee is given to first honorable mention graduates, either from public or private schools, belonging to graduating classes with a minimum of 45 students or more.

However, only twenty-one (21) units shall be allowed for the full tuition fee scholarship. The exceeding units must be paid by the student.

2. Sports and Athletic Scholarship

(a) PALARO Player Scholarship

To qualify as a PALARO player (National or International player) is one rare privilege that any student can enjoy. A Palaro athlete who brings home an award shall be granted a scholarship herein classified:

- Gold Awardee

A gold awardee shall enjoy these privileges: free tuition fee in full provided he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Any excess to the number of units shall be paid by the student.

- Silver Awardee

A silver awardee shall enjoy a seventy percent (70%) discount on tuition fee provided he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Again, any excess of 21 units shall be paid by the student.

- Bronze Awardee

A Bronze awardee shall enjoy a fifty percent (50%) discount in tuition fee provided he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Any excess of 21 numbers of units shall be paid by the student.

For a student to maintain any of the aforementioned scholarships for a succeeding school year, he must maintain being an award-winning PALARO player, pass all his academic with a minimum grade of 2.5 as part of the requirements per semester or for the whole school year and be recommended by the Athletic Executive Committee headed by the Sports and Athletic Coordinator.

(b) Regional Player Scholarship

To qualify as a regional player is one rare privilege that any student can enjoy. Any one who brings home an award shall be granted a scholarship as follows:

- Gold Awardee

A gold Awardee shall enjoy a fifty percent (50%) discount in tuition fee provided he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Any excess in the number of units shall be paid by the student.

- Silver Awardee

A silver awardee shall enjoy a thirty percent (30%) discount in tuition fee if he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Any excess in the number of units shall be paid by the student.

- Bronze Awardee

A Bronze Awardee shall enjoy a fifteen percent (15%) discount in tuition fee provided he has a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units in a given term. Any excess in the number of units shall be paid by the student.

To maintain any of the aforementioned scholarships for the succeeding school year, a student must still be an award-winning regional player, pass all his academic with a minimum of 2.5 grade as a requirement or for the whole school year and be recommended by the Athletic Executive Committee headed by the Sports and Athletic Coordinator.

(c) Basketball Varsity (College and High school) and Individual or Group Sports Scholarships

- Varsity Basketball Players (Men)

Varsity basketball players in College in the men’s category are granted full scholarship which entitles each of them free tuition fee only. Each, however, must have a total academic load ranging from 18 to 21 units. Any excess in the number of units shall be paid by the student. Further, a maximum of only twelve (12) slots are available for this scholarship. To avail or maintain this scholarship in the succeeding semester, he must still be a varsity player, pass all his academic with a minimum of 2.5 for all subjects taken as part of the requirements in a given semester of whole year and be recommended by the Athletic Executive Committee headed by the Sports and Athletic Coordinator.

- Other Individual or Group Events

Scholarships under these sports and athletic events are granted after careful and proper selection and recommendation by the Athletic Executive Committee.

3. Work Scholarship/Student Assistant Program

Work Scholarship is granted to poor but deserving students. Qualified students are those with low family income, of good moral character, of average academic standing and have to maintain a minimum grade of 2.5 with no failing grades in all semesters and in their high school report card, moreover, these students must have passed the qualifying examination and interview administered by the school.

4. Drum and Bugle Corps

Members of the Drum and Bugle Corps can avail of a discount on tuition fee only according to the instrument they play as well as their attendance and performance:

(a) Band major ------ eighty percent (80%)

(b) Band majorette ------ sixty percent (60%) Quadro

(c) Triple Players ------ fifty percent (50%)

(d) Bass Drum: Twirler, Lyre, Bugle --- forty percent (40%)

(e) Snare Drums: Cymbals, Cowbell, bongos ---- thirty percent (30%)

5. SJIT Campus Choristers

Members of the SJIT Campus Chorister get a discount on tuition fee only according to their performance, attendance and their years of residence with the group and to maintain a minimum grade of 2.5 as part of the requirement.

III. Private and Public Scholarships

The institute accommodates grantees of external public and private scholarships. These scholarships are the following:

6. Study- Now- Pay- Later- Plan (SNPLP)

7. Selected Ethnic Group Educational Assistance Program (SEGEAP)

8. State Scholarship Program (SSP)

9. National Integration Study Group Program (NISGP)

10. Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarships

11. Special Program for Employment of Student (SPES) Scholarships.

IX. In-House Scholarship Application Guidelines

The scholarship is open to all who qualify. Once qualified, a student grantee is expected to attend all student activities set by the institution. Deduction shall be made accordingly to whatever absence he may incur in any activity which he is supposed to attend. Any interested student who may wish to avail of these scholarships, the following procedure must be followed:

1. All applications must be filed and processed in April of every school year.

2. Any applicant must fill out an application form which can be obtained from the Office of the Student Personnel Services or from any accredited unit office of the SJIT.

3. The applicant must undergo an interview which shall be followed with some tests to be administered and released by the SPS Staff.
