1. Ateneo Freshman Merit Scholarship (AFMS)
The Ateneo Freshman Merit Scholarship is an academic distinction awarded yearly to the top forty (40) freshman applicants who have excelled in the Ateneo College Entrance Test, have distinguished themselves in their respective high schools, and who also show great promise for the future. This award includes a full tuition and fees grant for any undergraduate degree of the awardee's choice.Here are the scholarships being offered, description of the following is available on the school's website:
2. San Ignacio de Loyola Merit Scholarship (SIDL)
The San Ignacio de Loyola Merit Scholarship for public high school Students is awarded yearly to freshman applicants from public or state-supported high schools across the country. These students must have distinguished themselves in both academic and co-curricular involvement in their respective high schools and more importantly, show the potential to become future leaders and catalysts for national development. This award includes a full tuition and fees grant for any undergraduate degree of the awardee's choice.
3. Fr. Thomas B. Steinbugler, SJ Academic Scholarship
The Fr. Thomas B. Steinbugler, S.J. Academic Scholarship is an academic grant awarded to Valedictorians and Salutatorians of Jesuit High Schools who are accepted to the Loyola Schools. Upon presentation of a certification from the high school principal, a Valedictorian receives a 100% Tuition and Fees Scholarship while a Salutatorian receives a 50% Tuition and Fees Scholarship.
4. Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ Science Academic Scholarship
The Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, S.J. Science Academic Scholarship is an academic award granted to Valedictorians and Salutatorians of science high schools who are accepted to the Loyola Schools in any degree program under the School of Science and Engineering. Upon presentation of a certification from the high school principal, a Valedictorian will receive a 100% Tuition and Fees Scholarship while a Salutatorian will receive a 50% Tuition and Fees Scholarship.
5. Athletic Scholarships
Athletic Scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who have excelled in sports and academics. Aside from being financially challenged, applicants must have outstanding athletic ability and must be a recipient of awards in their specific sport. Applicants must complete the Athletic Scholarship Application Form from the University Athletics Office and secure the recommendation of the Ateneo coach and program head for the sport.
6. Government and Private Scholarships
All applicants are encouraged to take qualifying examinations given by various government agencies, private groups, or foundations, specifically, DOST-SEI and CHED. Awardees may come to the Ateneo under such scholarships.

7. Financial Aid Grants
Applicants for scholarship must fill out a Scholarship/Financial Aid Questionnaire. This form must be secured and submitted together with the Application for Admission form. Application for scholarship does not influence in any way the decision concerning acceptance into the college. Scholarship applicants, therefore, should not wait for the decision on their application for admission before securing or submitting a scholarship application.
With limited scholarship slots each year, the Committee on Admission and Aid makes it's decision on each application after carefully examining the results of the Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) together with the academic record of the applicant, the family's finances and school recommendations.
Criteria for Selection
Financial Aid grantees are selected on the basis of:
A) financial need as clearly evident in the Scholarship/Financial Aid Questionnaire
B) intellectual ability and proven consistent academic performance
C) service to the community and potential for greater service in the future.
Types of Grant
Financial aid takes various forms:
A) 25% tuition and fees
B) 50% tuition and fees
C) 75% tuition and fees
D) 100% tuition and fees
E) book and/or transportation allowance
F) dormitory assistance
Program of Study and Tenure of Award
Scholarships and financial grants are awarded to students in all programs of study in the Loyola Schools. The grant is given for a year only. It may be renewed upon evaluation of the student's continued financial need and above satisfactory academic performance. It covers Summer and Introductory Courses if these are required.
8. Financial Aid for Graduate Students
SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID
A.Scholarships Funded by the Ateneo de Manila University
• 50% Tuition Scholarship for Teachers and Academicians
Consistent with the Ateneo’s core values of excellence and service, the Loyola Schools seeks to strengthen the nation’s educational system by investing much faculty time and university resources on the development of superior teachers.
The Loyola Schools offers 50% tuition scholarship to Filipino master’s students who are teachers of academicians, e.g. Registrars, guidance counselors, school administrators, curriculum writers, outside the Ateneo. This scholarship is also designed to assist educators to earn their master’s degrees which should qualify them to teach in college.
Applicants for the 50% tuition scholarship present to the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs every enrollment period a recent certification issued by the dean, principal, school head, or personnel head of the institution where they are affiliated. Grantees may also have to meet certain conditions in order to continue availing themselves of the 50% tuition scholarship. The Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs issues the authorization for this scholarship.
The 50% tuition scholarship does not apply to the final paper, practicum paper, research, or thesis writing.
• Teaching and Graduate Assistantships
Slots for Teaching and Graduate Assistantships in the departments/programs are approved by the Deans and Vice President for the Loyola Schools. Teaching and Graduate Assistants are nominated by the Department Chair and approved by their Dean, the Vice President for the Loyola Schools, and the Director for Administrative Services.
Teaching Assistants carry a 15-unit workload for the school year that consists of assisting senior faculty in large lecture/discussion classes or laboratory classes. Graduate Assistants may either carry the same workload as Teaching Assistants or render 20 hours per week of research assistance in official department research. Successful applicants are entitled to free tuition fee and other fees in any of the graduate programs of the Loyola Schools and a monthly stipend, 13 month pay, and other government-required benefits.
• Thesis Production Grants
The Thesis Production Grant is a modest amount offered by the Loyola Schools to students who have successfully defended their thesis. The grant is intended to facilitate the preparation of the final revised copy of the thesis after the Oral Defense. Applications for Thesis Production Grants are accepted and processed by the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs up to October 15 for the first semester and March 15 for the second semester. These limited grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
• DepEd - Ateneo Scholarship
The Education Department of the School of Social Sciences awards a limited number of full tuition scholarships every year to deserving public school teachers as part of the DepEd Integrated Scholarship Program which has become national in scope. A committee from the Education Department screens the applicants and recommends to the Dean of the School of Social Sciences it's candidates for these scholarships in the Master of Arts in Education program.
Some departments offer full or partial scholarships to qualified applicants. Interested applicants may inquire directly with the department.
The Japanese Studies Program grants, to qualified students, full or partial scholarships that are funded by the Japan Foundation.
The Department of Psychology offers a Ph.D in Psychology scholarship for a psychology teacher of a provincial college or university under it's Ateneo Bu Eagle Doctoral Fellowship.
The Formation Institute of Religious Educators (FIRE) also grants full or partial scholarships.
• Institute of Philippine Culture-Department of Sociology and Anthropology Scholarship Program for Young Filipino Social Science Professionals (IPC-DSA Scholarship)
The Institute of Philippine Culture – Department of Sociology and Anthropology Scholarship program (IPC-DSA Scholarship), with funds from the Ford Foundation, offers support for academic and professional training in Sociology and Anthropology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology (DSA) of Ateneo de Manila University. It aims to develop young Filipino social science professionals with the expertise to respond, with a sense of urgency, to the rapidly changing social and cultural landscapes that constitute the world we live in. Scholars will be enrolled in the academic programs of the DSA and will join the research programs of the Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC). This combination of academic and research training is designed to equip them with the methodological, analytical, and theoretical tools to generate and mobilize knowledge in shaping transformations in their localities.
The IPC-DSA scholarship program for young Filipino social science professionals originates from and continues the goals of the IPC-DSA Professional Social Science Training Program (1986-2008) which supported the training of hundreds of social science professionals from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Eligibility: A Filipino citizen, preferably under 30 years of age, who:
1. Is eager to pursue a degree in any of the following:
-MS in Social Development
2. Can engage in full-time studies within a two-year period
3. Has professional experience in social science-related work
4. Passes all admission requirements of the Loyola Schools
5. Looks forward to a career in social development
The Graduate Programs
MA in Anthropology
Provides students with a grounding in the theories and methods of anthropology, with an opportunity to specialize in such areas as cultural change, ethnology, and even more focused areas in social and cultural anthropology.
MA in Sociology
Gives students a grounding in the theories and methods of sociology, with an opportunity to specialize in such subject areas as social change, social organization, and even more focused areas as urban structures, gender relations, social inequality, and globalization.
MS in Social Development
Gives students the practical, analytical, and theoretical tools to engage in social development research, and policy-making and action upon completion of their studies.
The program provides the following:
- Full tuition and other school fees
- Monthly stipend
- Book allowance and research/fieldwork fund
- Accomplished application form (forms downloadable from Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs web)
- In addition to the requirements of the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs:
Summary of proposed thesis research (not more than 500 words). The concept notes are indicated in Form IPC-DSA.

• The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Felllowship Fund (SYLFF) Program at the Ateneo de Manila University
The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) Program for Tomorrow’s Intellectual Leaders supports outstanding graduate students by granting them a master’s and doctoral degree fellowships from the School of Social Sciences, the School of Humanities and the Law School of Ateneo de Manila University. Designed for the best and brightest students with strong leadership potential, the SYLFF Program envisions producing responsible citizens who can deal with social issues in a critical and constructive sense, formulate solutions for local and regional problems, and participate effectively in the country’s efforts to engage the global community.
A SYLFF Fellow receives a grant every year for a maximum period of 3 years. The amount is inclusive of tuition, fees, and living allowance.
Non-thesis options do not qualify for the SYLFF Program.
• Jesuit Educational Association – ADMU (Presidential) Scholarship
Faculty from other Jesuit schools in the country, who are recommended by their Rectors of Presidents, may avail themselves of these scholarships. These scholarships are administered through the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. The scholarship covers tuition and other fees, and in certain cases, living and transportation allowances during the summer.
C. Government-Funded Scholarships
• DOST –PCASTRD
The Philippine Council of Advanced Science and Technology Research and Development (PCASTRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) aims to generate research and development manpower in selected areas of advanced science and technology. The program includes scholarship grants (M.S. And Ph.D.) to qualify local applicants in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. These grants cover tuition and fees, book allowance, stipend, and transportation allowance every school year.
Interested applicants should see the Chair of the Department concerned.
• CHED Faculty Development Program Phase 2
The CHED Faculty Development Program Phase 2 seeks to upgrade the academic qualification of college and graduate school faculty in certain priority to master’s and doctoral degrees.
Scholarship grants in the priority areas are available for master’s programs in either thesis or non-thesis mode as well as doctorate programs. Ph.D. Students at the dissertation stage can apply for the “Sandwich Program” to do their doctoral research abroad.
The scholarship provides full tuition and other fees, a monthly stipend, book allowance, transportation allowance for those coming from distant places, as well as thesis and dissertation grants.
To qualify, applicants must be a Filipino, full-time tertiary faculty members in any of the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) priority SHEIs, and teaching in a priority field. The Ateneo de Manila University is a delivering institution for programs in the priority areas. Scholarship applicants must first secure admission to an Ateneo Loyola Schools graduate program in the priority area of interest. Qualified faculty who are already enrolled in the Ateneo graduate school may also apply for the scholarship.
