Course description:
The degree of Bachelor of Science in Ceramics Engineering is a five-year course that aims to provide students with an extensive training in Ceramics Engineering as foundation for:
Careers in the various fields of Ceramics Engineering such as Porcelain and Fine Ceramics, Structural and Refractory Clay Products, Glass, Enamel and Cement, Environmental and Industrial Wastes Management, Quality Control;
Conducts researches and studies in both the basic and applied aspects of the Ceramics Material and Manufacturing Operations; and
Develops consciousness on the role of Ceramic Engineers in the optimum utilization and management of the earth natural resources, and other factors that contribute to improving the quality of life on earth.
The 2000 undergraduate curriculum includes 81 credit units of professional and allied subjects in Ceramic Engineering, such as Ceramic Crystal Chemistry, Ceramic Raw Materials, Unit Operation, Unit Processes, Refractories, Glazes, Whitewares, Enamels, Cement and Plaster, Glass Technology, Advanced Ceramics, Quality Control, Industrial Waste Management, Ceramic Metals, Structural Clay Products, Ceramic Engineering, Testing Ceramic Products, Properties of Ceramic Products, Computer-Aided Analysis of Ceramic System, Ceramic Engineering Design, Kin Operations, Principles of Geology, and Mineralogy.
The curriculum also includes 26 units of Mathematics, 38 units of Natural/Physical Sciences, 4 units of basic Engineering Sciences including Research Subject, 42 units of Non-Technical Subjects including Languages, Social Sciences and General Education, and 26 other units as miscellaneous.
The program also allows the students to choose elective subjects to enhance knowledge in specific areas. Industry visits and summer job training (practicum) are given emphases for the students to appreciate their classroom learning. Students are required to perform Thesis work in their chosen field of specialization prior to their completion of the course.
