About my college education:
My course was not my first choice but I learned to love it. It involved mathematical as well as analytical skills. It needed patience and lots of gruelling hours of studying. Our practical exams gave us insights on the real corporate world. They gave us a feel of what it's like to be a part of the business world. My course introduced me to different office jobs and has fully equipped me to handle them well.
My current job:
Treasury Supervisor
Am I using what I learned in college:
Definitely yes.
I was able to use everything I learned in college in my current job. My knowledge in accounting and finance are very important tools to my work in the office. I easily grasped my duties and obligations in the office so I need only minimum supervision. Before I was promoted to Treasury Supervisor, I did purely accounting and bookkeeping tasks like recording of accounts, journalizing, posting to ledgers and filing. When I was transferred to the cash department, I was able to use my knowledge in cash management, ensuring that the office will not run out of funds. I practically managed all the receipts and disbursements transactions of the office.
How long did it take to find a job:
I was employed five months after graduation
Do I recommend studying BSBA in Accountancy:
I think that the course I've chosen will always remain to be useful and important despite the fast changing times and the modern technology. Everything in the business world requires accounting and office works. There's only a need to upgrade your knowledge especially in the use of the computer and other modern equipments. But the whole procedure in running an office or any business, for that matter, remains the same.
For me, pursuing a course which was not my first choice, never gave me regrets. My university has developed me into a person who is ready to meet any challenge in life after school. Proof of this is the several promotions I've been given and even an offer to manage the entire office.
As for the salary level, I can say it has made me financially stable. I have learned to love my course, after all and my career is very self-fulfilling. I strongly recommend my course to the incoming college students. Anyway, every office requires and needs an accountant, office clerk or finance employee.
