Program Overview
The Diploma in Special Education program (DSPED) is offered to bachelor degree holders and is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of students on the needs of special children in school and at home.
The Special Education program prepares graduates for jobs as educators in special education schools and SPED centers.
Students who would like to practice as licensed SPED teachers need to take up additional 18 units of Professional Education subjects and take the Licensure examination for Teachers (LET).
Admission requirements for Diploma in Special Education program in the Philippines
- Must have recommendation from previous college dean and previous employer
- Must take and pass the entrance examination for the master’s program
- Must have most recent medical and dental health record
- Must have the Original copy of the transcript of records
- Must have a copy of NSO certified birth certificate
- Must have a certificate of good moral character
- Must have a copy of the honorable dismissal
- Must have a copy of college diploma
- One 2”x 2” copy of latest photo

Licensure examination required in order to practice as SPED teachers in the Philippines
A graduate of Diploma in Special Education needs to pass
Licensure Examination for Teachers in order to practice the as a teacher in the Philippines. The examination is given by the
Board of Professional Teachers under the supervision of the
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Requirements for the Licensure Examination for Teachers
- Must be a holder of a degree in Diploma in Special Education with academic credits on required subjects from a university recognized by the Philippine government.
- Must have a copy of the Transcript of Records with Special order and date of graduation with remarks “FOR BOARD EXAMINATION PURPOSES ONLY”
- Must not have any case filed or pending for moral turpitude in any court in the Philippines that involves moral turpitude
- Must have an original copy of community tax certificate (cedula)
- Must have a copy of the NSO authenticated birth certificate
- Must be of good health and sound mind
- Must be of good moral character
- Must be a Filipino Citizen
