Program Overview

The BSBA in Marketing Management program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills for effective marketing and sales strategies: how a company determines what product or service to sell, how customers and markets are delineated into target demographics, and the methods of reaching them. The course also focuses on strategic marketing issues which marketing managers assess before findings are presented to their executives. By learning to be an effective marketer and manager, you will learn to respond to the demands of competitors, the government, and larger social issues. Among the concepts and theories that will be discussed are sales management, brand, distribution, e-commerce, franchising, retailing, information technology and corporate social responsibility.

The program will provides you with opportunities to go beyond the classroom. Feasibility studies will require field work and interviews with customers in projected target markets.

As a versatile major, the course seeks to produce graduates who are able to work in the fields of marketing, advertising and research.

What Senior High School strand should I take for BSBA Marketing?  

Students who are planning to take up BSBA Marketing can take ABM (Accounting, Business and Management) as their senior high school strand. 

Being the strand that provides the basic concepts of business and marketing, ABM strand is the appropriate strand for BSBA Marketing.

BSBA in Marketing Management and BSBA in Marketing are exactly the same course. Officially, CHED uses the name BSBA in Marketing Management. However, it allows schools to modify course names thus there are some schools that use the name BSBA in Marketing.

Is Marketing a profession?

Marketing is on the crossroads between being a profession and being an art. Marketing does require some skills and techniques that can be learned, while many other traits such as people skills, appearance, ability to gain people's trust, perseverance, are more character traits and natural abilities than something you learn. You do not need a license or specific education to work in marketing, and your natural abilities and experience will play a critical part in your success.

What are the admission requirements for BSBA in Marketing Management in the Philippines?

There are no specific requirements for this course. As long as you are a high school graduate, submit the necessary credentials/documents and are able to pass the college entrance examination and interview, you will be eligible for admission and enrolment in the BSBA in Marketing Management program.
Students who were not able to complete secondary level of education have the chance to be admitted if they pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT).

What skills are required to succeed in this course?

How difficult is this course?

BSBA in Marketing Management is not too difficult as a course, yet it requires an intuition for the demographics of society, the desire to understand the varying demands of consumers and the ability to forecast market trends and movements.

How long does it take to complete BSBA in Marketing Management in the Philippines?

The BSBA in Marketing Management program takes 4 years to complete (Note: this may change due to the K-12 integration). The program may be completed in a shorter time in schools that follow the trimestral curriculum.

This course requires 138 credit hours which are equivalent to 8 semesters.

On The Job Training / Internship

As mandated by CHED (the official governing body of higher education institutions in the Philippines), on the job training is a requirement for any BSBA program. The total number of hours set for internships according to CHED is 300 hours.

During the On-The-Job training program, you will be assigned to work at a company’s marketing department and experience the process of effectively promoting a product or a service by assessing it through the needs of the company’s target markets. This process will require the production of detailed feasibility studies and environmental scans where you will conduct surveys and interviews so as to gather data about consumer behavior and demand.

Is there a board examination for BSBA in Marketing Management?

There is no board examination for BSBA in Marketing Management.

Civic-minded graduates can choose to take the competency examination known as the Civil Service Examination. Those who will pass the civil service examinations are conferred a civil service eligibility, a basic requirement in admissibility for government service.

    • Marketing Communications Manager (MarComm) – proofreads the company’s marketing communications materials while ensuring that only those with outstanding quality are produced for dissemination.
    • Project Manager (Marketing) – oversees and directs marketing projects in varying stages beginning to completion by holding teams down to a workflow.
    • Marketing Consultant – works with consulting firms to create marketing plans and forecasts for client companies.
