Why did I choose Economics and Public Policy:
I chose this course because I wanted to understand stock trading and it is a popular undergraduate course when pursuing the study of law.
About my college education:
I learned that the most fundamental principle in Economics, supply and demand, is applicable in every aspect of life. If you mastered the application of supply and demand, you can understand the current events in the world clearly.
Economics thesis is the most difficult. This really a full blown research wherein you will apply the economic principles that you have learned from the past and see if it applies and if not why does not apply. The thesis is backed with data that need to be treated statistically which for me is the hardest. One of the hardest subject in this course is Econometrics wherein you study the statistical treatment for the data and how to read the statistical treatment that is applied on the data gathered. Adding, econometrics is also fun to study since, you can see the mathematical representation on how independent things affects the dependent.
The most enjoyable thing in Economics is when you realize that you are actually applying the economic theories in real life. You will feel awesome when you can explain to others that I am applying what I have learned in school. Economics combined with Public Policy is great as you learn how the government is being governed and what will be the economic effect of their public policies and that these policies are backed with research that can forecast on the actions available for the policy makers.
Passing the exams is not difficult when you study and listen to class discussions. The exams will be very easy when you master the fundamentals. This mastery differs to every person. Although, In our class only very few had to repeat subjects.
To succeed in this course, one should have the patience. Doing research is not that easy and it cannot be done in a snap. Reading materials is a must. In treating the data, trial and errors are often encountered and one should have the patience in trying again until you treat the data properly.
My current job:
I am currently a full time law student.
Do I recommend studying Economics and Public Policy:
Before I entered law school, I was searching for a job. There is a lot from online headhunters looking for an Economics graduate. I believe that Economics graduates have advantage over other business courses. Hence if you are considering to take a business course it would be better if you choose Economics and Public Policy since you are not confined in the private sector but also in the public sector.
A fresh graduate of BS in Economics and Public Policy can expect a salary from P16,000 to P20,000 per month. If you are lucky, just like some of my friends, they earn around the P25,000 per month.
An experienced employee with a masters degree can earn at least P50,000 per month.
Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:
If you enjoy reading current events and want to have more deeper understanding around you. Take this course and you will enjoy it.
